So, today my cat died at the age of 16. 16 years where it has been sleeping next to me, always ran at the door whenever someone came home, just - been there, a family member, and yet "only" a simple cat.

Guess I'd better get used to not seeing it anymore

We used to have two cats, one died 5 years ago and now this one = no cats left...it's kind of weird how much they still mean, but you just don't realize it when you see them all the time, when they're gone, it's a gap..

Weird lump in my throat, wish it'd go away

Anyway, what's your story with pets that have passed on?

We had a kitten at our place for probably a year or so. We got it from one of my mom's friends who picked up a hitchiker, who was upset because she found this cat on the side of the road and couldnt take it with her on the plane. So she gave it to my mom's friend, and my mom's friend gave it to us. Anyway, we had it for a year or two, and then in the course of like three days it got sick and died.

It was really bad too, because the only person home was my sister, and (at the time) she worked really long hours, so she'd be home for a bit, and feed the cat, go to bed, etc. Anyway, she called me late one night after she got home, saying that the cat wasnt doing very well, was meowing really weirdly, and she wanted to know what to do, so I told her to take it to the vet the next day, or if it got any worse, there'd be an emergency number to call on the vet door.

She called the next day and told me the kitten had died that night while she was asleep

Mind you, the cat was pretty much retarded, but it was still a fun cat.

And why shouldn't guys have cats too?!?! Are you trying to suggest it's a girly pet? I like dogs too but at least you have to earn the respect of a cat for it to behave in the way Da1's did...

I feel bad for you Da1.. I know how you might feel aboUT not wanting to get a new one because it would never be the "same". But you should consider this, getting a new pet and learning a new personality is extremely rewarding, and i'm sure you could fill the gap again.

our cat nearly hung herself in the window. twice. it also ate like 2 meters of cable and nearly lost a foot (got stuck in the findow again). this year it managed to break a foot or something but still runs around on the three others. its 15 and that cat totaly rocks. im scared it might not make this winter tho :/

USE DA PHOTOSHOP. My bichon dog died a couple of months ago it was with my family for likr 5 years so it was a huge loss for me. It always hung around me, never fought with my cat, and was a good pal. As for living animals I still got the 8 year old still active, and fun. A bit too clingy though always following me with the meowing and such.

                              Da1,

I know how you feel right now..it's a terrible feeling but just know that it will ease in time. I had to put my cat down 1 and a half years ago and it still hurts to think about it. My story is here if you would like to read it.

We now have two cats that I'm very happy with but nothing will ever replace my first cat, Pepper.
