Why are people online so dumb?

Seriously, 'm not trying to start a flame war, I want a serious discussion.

Why I start this thread is because this guy in ?go art spent like the last half hour trying to insult me with "bitch gay faggot kid etc etc" and say he had a masters and wanted to duel me and such then told me I took this game too seriously and had no friends just because I kept killing him(we were playing for the flag). And he kept saying the same shit over and over and basically being insanely stupid.

So I ask you... why are people so stupid over a game? It was funny when he tried to tell me he had a masters when all he could say was the samething, and it was even more funny when he wanted to try to insult me based on where I live.

I think part of it has to do with the level of maturity of Tw'ers, the anonymity of being online, but I also think subspace fosters a culture of impulsive communication.

By that, I mean the game itself is competitive, and since we constantly see people calling each other newbie, EZ, faggot, lamer, etc...people are encouraged to just say whatever comes to mind. And some people mimic this behavior because they feel it will make them appear more leet, and sometimes people do it just because it makes their pathetic lives seem more fulfilled.

people online tend to be relatively younger than the average, but i dont think theyre dumber

living in a metropolitan area, you might not realize just how dumb people in other parts of the country can be.

a. Lonely in real life and have no friends.

Because they flame/harrass them, this starts to make their ego feel good. Because their ego feels good, they

d. Constantly go EZ/noob'd, etc. Their lack of sleep also adds to their anger. Because they lack sleep, their reaction time is slower, which gives them more opportunities to scream noob'd/hax'd.

This is the life of the average angry subspacer.

It's all either

a. A strugle of power, people don't like to be lower than anybody in anycase, and if they at all feel threatened at this at all, they will react.

b. Because of the power struggle, people will find any reason at all to flame people, I once got flamed because I MENTIONED about the way I saw a staff member talk to a new person to the game, basically saying that the guy would always be a newb and would never be considered by their squad, that kind of bothered me, a guy from staff shouldnt be able to treat someone new like that.
But in anycase I got flamed by someone when I mentioned that that bothered me, wtf?

c. People will call "ez", "sit" JUST to draw attention, which, sadly, will work 98% of the time

so I have decided that from now on, if I see somebody like that, I will make a long list of ?ignore 'd people.

Ashlee pretty much summed it up. Other people do it to sort of like don't get any attention, or are really insecure so they try to get attention, and annoy the hell out of us to make themselves feel better. They want to be acknowledged by their peers, and want to prove their existance, but no one cares in real life so they do it in games like SS.

I'd say its because of the anonymity, people kind of tend to get full of themselves. Or just enjoy mocking other people when there is no possible backlash.
