No worries, I can't swim either, and I'm 20 now. I've tried, taken lessons, friends have tried to teach me..no go. I used to be able to doggy paddle, but that's when I was like 8 and took those lessons.

My half-brother has ADD, and I'm sure one of my friends has it although he probably doesn't want to admit it. It's nothing to be ashamed about, there are worse things you could have. Is it terretz syndrom (sorry for the spelling hurricane), where you can't control yourself and you shout out random shit? I'm sure there are other syndromes where you shit yourself randomly, or have body spasms and other bad stuff. So yea, there's worse conditions you could be in, buddy.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I think I did this test for psych class and found out that my ADD is in retaining read information. Being a english double major, the news kinda hurt but my professor told me that it wasn't too big of a deal because the ADD was very minor (I think the test showed that I was about 15% off the mark) and that my information retention for reading the document a second time is on the mark.

Interesting stuff, but I don't think it's bad at all - I guess when your doc says "suck it up" it might be for your own good. I personally believe that these tests are kind've silly, and that ADD is just something doctors came up with to explain people who aren't good at a common task. I think they should be more worried about the fact that I can't swim (i've really tried learning... really really tried) because it could kill me. Scoring 100 pts less on the SATs verbal section on the other hand, I don't mind as much.
There's a huge fucking difference between being learning disabled (LD... that's the term you wanted) and just forgetting shit on occasion. Everyone forgets certain things at times and everyone has their certain areas that they're not the greatest at.

And to what gen said, I'm guessing your friends didn't really have a disorder meriting adderal in the first place. The stuff isn't made to speed these people up. It's made to level the chemicals out. For the rest of us, it causes an opposite effect. For people that have certified ADD (and not just some goofy doctor's hunch), the stuff has usually worked from what I've observed.

Do you really want to be taking drugs for the rest of your life?

talking while he was trying to rock
out on his guitar, so the ninja totally

I've been misdiagnosed with ADD several times. More likely, I have GAD instead.

Fear of failure can be fairly paralyzing if you ask me. Its good now that I've been able to defeat it, but it still shows up once in a while.

I was diagnosed with ADD in fourth grade. On stimulants for most of 8 years. Don't be too dissapointed if they don't perscribe you the drugs, I wouldn't suggest them.

far too many psychologists and psychiatrists are quick to push pills.

i wish i had attempted a more wholistic approach to bettering my mental health before giving into the lazier, and hind-sightedly much more damaging, "mmm... happy pills" mentality.

I had ADD when I was a kid and I had depression problems for a while. I have never visited a doctor because of them.

I think I am still suffering from ADD and depression, but it is much better nowadays. You will be surprised how many times problems solve themselves.

Holy shit, I think I might actually have ADD. I never bothered to mention it, and no, for once I'm not being a smartass on this one.

Same as Dameon, I think I may have a slight form of it seeing as though I really do get distracted too often and fall behind on what I should be doing

I found out recently that I had ADD, AND dyslexia. Which is funny considering I'm one of the top debaters for our school.

Honestly, I think the reason I can get around ADD is because of music. Whenever I listen to it, I chill out and divert my attention to it. Whenever I don't listen to music, I'm pretty spastic. All of my past girlfriends complain that I am "musically ADD", because whenever they would delve into some serious issue I would say something like "I dunno, but the Fiery Furnace's new EP is pretty sweet". Turns out I really was ADD

I guess I don't have it as bad, so if the music doesn't help, good luck dude I don't trust pills, it stems from the fact that once I stopped using my inhaler, taking claritin, and using tylenol, my asthma, allergies, and constant headaches just went away.

Quite a few people have given caution to the meds, and I appreciate the reality check. When I was 16, my mom suggested I get screened and I didn't want to because I didn't want to be on meds the rest of my life.

Now that I'm older, I feel as if I have given it a shot at trying to go without medication and just deal with it on my own. I have developed a few different strategies to cope with things medication-free such as making a LOT of lists (so I don't forget what I have to take care of that day), trying to eliminate distractions while I'm in school (no hobbies or partying), and taking only a couple classes at a time so I don't get overwhelmed. And of course, that means working at the same time is out of the question.

Having said all of that---at my age, I just don't think I can get away with not working and only taking 2 classes per semester. As much as I don't want to take meds that are probably not very healthy for your body chemistry, and highly addictive, I don't feel I have many other options. I've been trying to do it med free, and it's just not working.

The fact that there is some sort of supposed chemistry difference in ADD people (never actually proven) doesn't mean that adderall is totally different for some people. I realize that when kids take this it does seem like they calm down because they can focus better on a task at hand instead of jumping all over but do you know what adderall is? It's an amphetamine and the fact that someone is ADD does not change that. And trust me, if anyone did, my friend needed adderall.
