Red-eye

Without using the words 'paint' or 'photoshop', are there any recommended easy-to-use programs that remove redeyeness from photos? I don't want to go on a downloading binge to find the right program. I recollect a thread like this but can't find it

but okay in all seriousness (since I seriously doubt you'd want to send me the photos one-by-one), I did a google search for free red-eye removing programs, and I'm testing them all out. I'll post here which one worked best/easiest

You could just not take red-eyed pictures. I think it has something to do with the flash. not too sure though - too lazy to check online

It's really hard to avoid red-eye completely, and it's caused by the reflection from your blood vessels in the back of your eyes. It usually happens in darker lightings, which can be impossible to avoid, so there you go

There are some flashes that are made for reducing red-eye and just raising the normal flash can help, and turning on more lights will help to, but once again Zeus doesn't exactly take glamour shots so this really won't help him in future photographs

Picasa has a red eye removal thing, but I've never used it (Ashlee, try it out!). Picasa is a photo organizer + very basic photo editor. It's free and released by Google.

I didn't even bother DLing Picasa because I thought Zeus wanted a strictly red-eye-removing prog, not something very similar to photoshop. If it works well though, then by all means, go for it

I tried Picasa and here is the result:



All you do is select your picture for editing, click Red Eye, and put some boxes around the eyes. Picasa does everything else.

Could just use Paintshop and colour the red part in black (or another dark color similar to their iris colour) <_< Thats what I did when I had to before. Low tech but unless you spasm when clicking, its pretty hard to see unless you break out the magnafying glass.

Just to extend: The reason is happens in dark lighting situations is because the pupil is bigger when it's darker because it is trying to gather more light. Since it is bigger, there is more of a "hole" for light to enter and reflect off of in the back of your eye. What red eye reduction flash does is flash twice: once to expose your eyes to light and hopefully get the pupils to shrink, reducing the "hole," and again to illuminate the scene.

Can I get a "nice person of the week" award, too? Or is that only reserved for those with a vagina?
