  • FPS Question

I've asked before, but i'll ask again.

In windowed mode at 1280x1024x32 I get about 70 FPS, but when anything moves on the screen it drops to like 40 FPS. Full screen mode, I get like 400 FPS, anything moves, I get about 180 FPS.

I have avoid page flipping off, no clipping, etc, etc, all that shit. Anyone have any ideas of why this could be doing this?

    System:

    2.6 GHz Intel
    512MB RAM
    ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
    120 GB Hard-Disk(s)
    Windows XP SP2

Anyways, my old TNT and GeForce 2 didn't have these issues. I get more FPS in games like the original Half-Life and HomeWorld then I do in Continuum, and since Continuum is all sprit based, and ah - the other are rendered, that's saddening.

I'm also running newest drivers from ATI.

    Thanks for any help.

Maybe it's the fact that your computer is just shit and it will never work no matter how much you pay people to fix it?

My computer dont fuck up cuz it got neon lights and a sweet exterior kit i got.

    Neon lights = leet

Yeah, well, I built my computer. I assure you it works fine. But that doesn't answer my question, and the fact your computer glows in the dark does little for me to answer the question.

      Anyone else?

what's the issue? if you had the FPS meter off, you wouldn't even be able to notice the difference in the game. what a relentlessly masturbatory post.

Try changing the color depth. In windowed mode, Continuum uses whatever your desktop is set at, so change that. Try 16, or 8 if you can.

Please find and drink some battery acid or whatever the hell is under your sink.

Check No Framerate Limit and uncheck Software Emulation, it's under advanced options. I had the same problem with my geforce 4 trying to do some screen captures of SS under windowwed mode. It seems higher end 3D cards aren't good for 2D graphics.

You might want to look into buying a new graphics card. I recommend a GeForce 6600 or higher- PCI-E if you can, that will definitely give you great performance.

And at 30-40 fps, the game lags.
                        What did you say again?

this is the silliest question ever - the fps drops because there are more things to be rendered when the screen moves. Was this your question?

Even to the most acute user, I dont think anything beyond 30fps (or was it 60 fps) even registers in the human brain. It might be "electronically" lagging, but you wont notice.

I honestly think people worry too much about fps because of the benchmarks they have out right now, sure you'll notice slowness when you're trying to run doom 3 with a geforce 4 and it goes around 10fps, but honestly imo anything beyond 30fps is a waste.

and on this computer i have the stock 10 mb vid card and my fps is 95-110 in full screen ss

The answer is not that simple, there is a lot of stuff to read about this. Here are a few:

                              Human Eye Frames Per Second
Human Eye Frames Per Second 2
How many frames per second can the human eye see?

Perhaps the only fact is that we still do not know fully how the brain and eyes see things.
