it was awesome, somehow i must have lucked out and not seen anyone dressed up and the people in the theatre were very well behaved. I gues the people were in as much awe as i was, i thought it wa sa great movie and i loved golem, that's not how i pictured him when i read the books but i lvoe him still. And the tree people were hilarious.

He does so in the book. It's part of his character.

Films will almost never live up to the quality of the images one can make up in one's mind whilst reading.

However that being said, Hobbiton was almost exactly the way I pictured it

Only thing I didnt like was that the ents didnt get in the movie as much as they were in the books, and they didnt spray that shit on the hobbits to make them all big. I wanted to see them big for once. :\

I saw the movie yesterday evening and it was awesome! The special effects, the story itself, the characters, this movie is Tha bomb of all movies! The only thing that disturbed me from watching the movie was one guy who sat in front of me and he kept on sneezing like a dog! It was kinda funny but it disturbed the movie! Dispite that little fact, the film was great!!!
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal...

Blah blah blah, some crap. Don't feel like posting a rant.
Long story short, I didn't like the first one. No movie can be that long, especially one written about a decent but not excellent series of books. I put LoTR on the same shelf as 1984 as far as writing goes. The only cool part was the CG, and I'm glad the academy recognized it. Not really looking forward to seeing the next one, though I'm sure I'll go with the dozens of friends who want to see it.

I used to be really into tolkien's work. I thought the first movie was freaking great. Maybe I've kind of "grown out of it" since then... but this movie fucking blew. It was fucking boring. I've read the book so many times.. the movie failed in so many places to make the movie as exciting as it could (should) have been:

                      1) not to be a purist or anything, but they anally raped Faramir! he is supposed to come across as a wiser, more noble version of Boromir... that was barely capitalized on in the movie, except maybe at the last second

                      2) all that shit about the shit between arwen and aragorn. wtf? they could've saved that for the next movie and put SHELOB in this one. WHERE THE FUCK WAS SHELOB? they lopped "the two towers" off before it finished and opted to put this romantic crap in. it just didn't do it for me.

                      3) the ents. k first of all treebeard's speech was hardly intelligible and he came across as a complete dufus, not as one of the oldest beings in existence. and the ents tearing down isengard was not as dramatic as it should've been.. I didn't really get the feeling that the ents were a fierce force to be reckoned with.. they were just sort of blah we're stomping on orcs blah. they weren't pissed off enough.

                      4) theoden - k aragorn argued with him pointlessly a few times, as if those behind this movie were trying to put in unnecessary conflict to keep the viewers awake. didn't work. also, what's with aragorn falling off the cliff. did anyone buy that? I felt it was a bit cheesy.

Although I must say, Gollum was done VERY well, the relationship between frodo and gollum was well done, and the scenes where gollum's "stinker and slinker" argue with one another were brilliant. I really appreciated Gollum in this movie. he was probably the most interesting character. Also, the battle scenes were freaking awesome.
                      'vet' is the new 'newb'.
                      sit ez vet, sit.

                        - now that I think about it, yes treebeard did sound dumb. But I still like them. Reminded me of wc3. -

                        - after watching the movie a seconded time I got really sick of him. His voice drilled through my head. It was better only seeing him the first time when it was funny. -

The animation on gollum was done perfectly. And his conflict with his evil side was done really well.

                            "Stupid fat hobbit!" LOLZ

Yeah Lou, the one thing about both LOTR movies that has pissed me off is the overemphasized romance between Arwen and Aragorn. I think they cut off before Shelob because if they had showed that part they wouldn't be able to cut it off right after... it'd be way too much of a climactic ending.
