No offense to the religeous people but humans are just another species of organisms trying to survive. Other than our highly developed brains, we're no different from chimps. What makes us special and "chosen"? I don't quite know but I'm pretty sure its just our big brains. I believe religion offers comfort and understanding to many people, which is a good thing, but I just can't buy it at the moment. I pretty much agree with Zeus on this one.

A Good example of religious people in my city is the Laestadian movement. They believe that any kind of use of birth control is sinful, as is watching tv. So generally, they're dumb as fuck.

Isn't it even more stupid to call someone dumb just because you don't understand them? I could aswell be calling you dumb because you listen to different music than I do. Personally I think you are stupid as hell for posting about something you know nothing about on public forums.

They make 20 children (until the mother is too old to give birth) and don't know anything what's happening in the world with a few exceptions of course.

What do you think what happens when someone has 20 children, do they have the time to raise them properly?

At least their parents don't divorce million times. I have 5 sisters and I don't think I could've been raised any better. If there is 20 kids in the family, they only get raised better because they have 2 parents and 19 sisters/brothers raising them.

You are wrong. It would be against their religion to reject their kids.

Religious people can do their own stuff and they do it out of sight and even though (in my opinion) religious people are not the brightest ones, I don't mind them being around if they're not talking. Therefore I respect their beliefs and (usually) I keep my mouth shut about it.

What makes us special is our self consciousness.
Now, we take it for granted that other (humans) are selfconscious, and that is what makes us special. We get to thinking superficially about this selfconsciousness, and thus, mysticism was born. I think that self consciousness is intimately related with the concept of a soul or spirit (google Near Death Experiences)
The problem I've got with some people is that they make the assumption that other animals are also not self-conscious. Theres a lot of assuming going on, and not a lot of justifying...

it's up to you if you want to make it personal, you seem to be pretty good at that so I will take whatever this "ridiculous embarrassment" you have in store because really, the only thing you're interested is getting to this point isn't it? So bring on the ridiculous embarrassment. Either I deserve it from every non believer in this thread who's arguing with their eyes glued shut <_< or at least I deserve it from you because I look down on people in "passive aggressive" ways.
