What part of curling is NOT a sport?
"Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively."
Unless you define sports as something that requires heavy television exposure, multi-millionaire contracts, and cheerleaders.♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫

You obviously have never curled before, Dabram. There's a lot of skill and physical effort put in to the sweeping for one thing. Unlike darts or bowls where the effort stops when you let go, you need to have good sweeping to get your shots to go where you want with the right weight. You also have to be ready to sweep at your opponent's stone if you want to use its momentum against it when it passes the button.
In this way, curling requires more physical effort than say, archery which is an Olympic sport.

arguing whether something is a sport or not is pointless, ive never heard someone name a definition of what a sport is where there isnt an example of something thats definitely a sport that doesnt fit their definition. should curling be in the winter olympics? sure. quite honestly its less boring than 50% of the other sports.5:gen> man

I never claimed that it was or was not a sport, I only stated that in my opinion (and yes it would probably change if I actually tried it and stuff) that I don't think that you need THAT much skill for curling, it's mostly tactical and a feeling you need.
And, you go walk a week with Tiger Woods, or Phil Mickelson or any of the top golfers and then come tell me golf is not a sport.Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

When I think of skill you need for topsport, to be a professional and compete with the best, I think about a natural born talent wich you develop by lots of training..
And I don't think you need a natural born talent to compete with the best in curling (but as I said, I never actually played it or anything) I think you can compete with the best by training hard, understanding the tactics and get a feeling for the speed of the curl.Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

I would call that skill as well. I wouldn't limit my definition of sport to something that requires natural born talent. If you look at other sports you can find plenty of examples where some athletes have natural talent but others had to work hard and constantly plug away to make it. There are a lot of failed first round draft picks with all the talent in the world but never had the accomplishments to meet their potential, and there are a lot of hall of fame players who got there not because they were born with talent but because they had to work hard to get there.
I think people respect those who worked hard to succeed better than those who were jus naturally talented. I wouldn't say that either of those groups are any less athletes than the other, and it wouldn't affect whether I call what they do a sport.
