Finally someone said Florida, seriously Florida is a must stop for everyone. Not only do we have top beaches, and if u are coming during Florida you will see some great ass, as well as beautiful oceans, where u can scuba dive, snorkel, para sail many other things. You have the clubs in Miami, Disney or countless theme parks if thats what u enjoy. Then I would suggest NYC, Washington DC, and San Diego which is also a great city

hey canada is definately worth visiting, my friend and i took a road trip from Vancouver to toronto, it was one of the ebst times of my life. We came south through the dakotas to see mt. rushmore but the fucking FOG. drove back up through minnesto and michigan and it was late september so the leaves were changing and itwas gorgeous.

But the ebst thing was driving through the rockies from vancouver to calgary, passing through kamloops, and golden BC, gorgeous country.
There once was a man from Nantucket.

How much time are you taking to do this trip?

If it is to meet the people and learn of the cultural diversities, than time may be a key factor on how long you will be here and how much time will be spent traveling rather than exploring the country.

There are some obvious areas that you may want to group together....and once completed, consider flying to another area. You can hit the East Coast and travel through so many city's. Boston, Providence, Cape Cod, Hartford, NYC, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Roanoke, Atlanta, Orlando, West Palm Beach - Miami...then take a flight to Buffalo and hit the Great Lake Tour. Buffalo will bring you to the Niagra Falls area, then swing around to Cleveland, Toldeo, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis...Then take another flight to Dallas/Ft. Worth and drive through Houston, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada...drive from Las Vegas to San Diego and travel north up to Seattle and your done. The middle of the country would hold areas to visit too, but this would get you to the most populated regions.

Depending on the time of year and the weather can play a big part in it all.

Set your goals as to what you want to see and where you want to go...alot of people travel the country following Bands and or Festivals from state to state ...fun way to get to know the youth of the nation during the summer months.

If you stop in Philadelphia let me know and I will give you the tour.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Go to Disney World in Orlando Florida, and Universal Studios, also in Orlando. As well as Cedar Point Rollercoaster Park, in Panda's neck of the woods, Ohio. The visit the American essentials, NY, Phili, Boston.....watch a Red Sox game, Chicago, Washington DC, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Seattle, and end it with Vegas, where you can blow whats left of your money on cheap slots, all you can eat buffets, and hookers.

Agreed, plus you can stop in and visit me!

I can describe a possible Eastern leg of a trip...
I also agree with what Facetious laid out, a blend of regions, population centers, and cultural experiences. Tour New England coast for great seafood, then perhaps swing inland and hit the lakes region of NY state. Travel down into eastern Pennsylvania, perhaps stopping by Gettysburg for some historical perspective. Washington DC has plenty of cool stuff, I like the Smithsonian. Chesapeake Bay area has more great food. Head a bit westward and travel down through Virginia's Shenandoah valley and perhaps check into a few of the caves in that region. Following the Blue Ridge Mountain Chain, consider picking up the Blue Ridge parkway in Virginia and driving down into the North Carolina mountains towards Asheville. North Carolina also offers some incredible coastal scenes, Outer Banks can give you endless miles of sandy beach with no one in sight. Further down the coast Charleston South Carolina is definitely worth a visit, combining charm, great people, and a good understanding of the 'old south'. Atlanta Georgia is a very good representation of a great southern city, lots of good night life and decent people.
Florida is worth a look, I prefer the Gulf Coast. Great looking woman throughout the state.

I would also strongly recommend smaller 'bed and breakfasts' found throughout the country as a way to experience United States. Reservations would only really be needed if you are hitting a region that is in peak vacation season. Call ahead to be sure.
Rental car would be the way I would go, avoid cross country bus travel. Trains are also a decent value, but are not as popular as they are in the EU.

The time of year will play a large part in what your tour will entail. If it is to meet the people and get a feel for there cultural lifestyle and not so much the tourist sites, then keep in mind that certain cities and states will offer more of what your seeking.

Bed & Breakfasts are great if you get into a rural setting outside of a city limit. In the cities, you can also find Hostels. Philadelphia has a good hostel in the Old City area, of which has some great food and activities during the summer months!

Perhaps you can set up a TW tour and hit us up on your trip. That would give you a diversified cross section of the people

Lake State Cities are great places to hit in the summer. Chicago is a must see! Especially if you can get there for the Blues festival....Food and music that is amazing!

Los Angeles is gross...no offense to anyone from there...but if you go there, you will NEED A CAR!

The Pacific Coast Highway is an amazing drive up the west coast and one that should not be missed....so if you make the west coast and rent a car, take this drive! So many places to see....hope you have a good amount of time to do these.

BTW...as far as needing a car on the East Coast...You can take trains from city to city. Boston down to Wash. D.C. all have a good public transportation systems that will allow you to avoid the hassle of driving.

Keep in mind that if you are going to fly from one section of the country to another, certain airports offer better rates for travel. It is actually cheaper for me to drive from Philly to Baltimore and get a flight to certain areas of the country than others. Certain Airlines do not travel to certain cities, so keep it in mind if you decide to depart from a city to another by plane.

Southwest Airlines give you some pretty cheap flights.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

hehe whoa so many places thanks for all your recommendations!
We are planning to go sometime after summer.. maybe around august/september and staying until we run out of money. For sure we want to be home for christmas but we probably have to go back home sooner cos we are all students with limited funds. How much does a cheap hostel/bed & breakfast cost over there? I dont really care that much about the quality as long as its safe and not too many bugs. I can take a few (thats what 4 months in asia does to you) but I dont want them everywhere haha! and what about lunch/dinner/beer/wine?
it would probably require like at least a year to see everything but I get the impression that the "best parts" are in the north around the lakes, east coast from boston maybe all the way down to florida, texas and lousiana and then la/las vegas? Might be a good idea to do what someone mentioned and fly to the different places and rent car at the airports and just explore..
We are all into music (everyone except me plays in bands O_o) and we are for sure gonna see some hockey and baseball(<-- national sport right?). following a band on tour is not gonna happend but yeah a couple of concerts, specially of bands that never come to northern europe, or smaller music clubs would be awesome..

Whatever you do, avoid Seattle. Meditation lives there, and he's growing his hair...

                                Anyways,
you should first check out how you can stay in the usa for longer than 3 months????
tourist visa in usa are 3 months. As I'm trying to move to Monterey (in cali) i have found out how much usa does not want "aliens" (foreigners) and it's actually quite hard to stay inside usa longer than 3 months. And obviously you can't get a job with a tourist visa, so don't count on earning some cash while being there.

So you might want to plan your route thrue Canada.
Let's say travel 2.5 months in usa, 1 months canada and another 2.5 months usa. This way you can remain your tourist visa. So your route would then be from south east / south west to north and back to south direction.

                                my 2 cents, enjoy
