i've scored myself a new entertainment center. it's one fantasically beautiful piece of furniture. my letter 't' letter 'v' is far too small to fill the gaping void at its center. i'm in the market for a 35-40" mass of electronic elegance. i simply lack the knowledge required to make an informed purchase.

help me. guide me. present me with a solution!

Well, first thing's first. Goto your local electronics store and take a look at what TVs they have for sale, see what your options are off the bat. You'd probably wanna look for ...

-HDTV Capability (Even if you don't have HDTV now, you never know when)
-Flat Screen Television (The picture is much sharper when your screen is flat, as opposed to the rounded screens of the past)
-Price (You need to know what your limits are, thats basic for any purchase)

And really, just compare and contrast what features you'd want and what features you could live without, and find the TV that looks the best to you, fits the best in your entertainment system and is at a price you're willing to pay.

Are you confined in the space using the new entertainment center? Size will determine alot!

They cannot give away large tube tv's. They are big and bulky as hell, but I love the Sony Trinitron 36" I have. Only takes three people to move it though.

The entertrainment center can be the key in what you get based upon size. My entertrainment center is a rosewood finish cabinet. I could put a flat screen in there, but it will not center accurately do to the wide screens available unless I get a pedestool for it. Even with that said, it still will not capture the size screen of the 36" I have now.

As for HDTV...Direct TV is in HDTV and you do not pay extra for the box as you would for Comcast or Adelphia's cable service.

Look at scratch and dents! who cares if there is a small scratch on the side

Go to a Best Buy to check um out...they have so many at my local store, and lots of good deals. They can't give it away!

When you get a subscription with Comcast, they give you so many months discounted for HD. They have a standard cable box too w/o HD at much less per month in cost. They just pulled my parents digital HD and switched with them as they do not need the HD digital for how much they watch their TV.

But yes, they do give you the box for a trial time discounted, and DirectTV is 100% digital to begin with at a lower cost w/ no religious shows on every channel on Sundays That's my perk!

EDIT: Keep in mind that the price will be around $700 - $900 for a tube HD ready system and a Flatt 32" - 37" will be over $1,900.00 in most cases.

The Tube will have the greater Vertical height and the flat will have the greater Horizontal width...trade off and price decision!

I read somewhere that all TV stations would have to go to at least 720p by the end of 2008, so I think that getting an HDTV LCD/Plasma would be wise.

the best piece of advice i can give you is :


PHILLIPS > SONY, MISTUBISHI ECT.
the Sony wega or vega or w\e is the only decent sony ive seen recently,
but the phillips HD looks niiice, my grandpa just bought one.

also, look for what type of input options it has. you should be able to find a phillips with all inputs (optical, component video, s-video, AV and coax). cause if your gonna go with HD, you want the best cable type. component video looks sooo clean. vibrant colors and such, i tested this with the disney movie The emporer's new groove. way noticable difference.

It may be a reference to projection TV. Toshiba projectors can be just as expensive as the HDTV plasma screens!
