Get HDMI if you're looking for future hi-def output. Apparently, the nice folks over in Hollywood want to flex copyright nuts and cut component video out of full support for the next generation HD-DVD and BluRay discs. What this means is that component video outputs on these players will dumb down the resolution to the point where it's the same as a normal DVD player. Not terrible, but if you're dropping cash into a fancy, shiny new HD-DVD player, I know I'd want to get the full bang for my consumer buck. Armed with this knowledge and a TV that only accepts component HD video, I'll make sure to spend my money on a "hardware fixed" model.

Thanks for making it easy to decide not to spend my money on you: Sony, Philips, etc!

I'm pissed because my DVD players component looks like fucking AV as it is. I don't want to know what it will look like after Hollywood gets a hand on it.

man that sucks! ill be outdated sooner than i thought!
Ill-timed force will be ineffective; act with precision; timing is everything. Knowing where and when to strike is more important than strength; misapplied ability is disability. Unreasonable or undue force will defeat itself

if there is any way you can get it to fit, i HIGHLY recommend the Sony KFE42A10E, i recently purchased the KFE50A10E (its 50' bigger brother), and i am extremely pleased.

The built in tuner is a bit naff, but i assume youd be running it via an external box anyway.

HDTV ready, HDMI + Component inputs, 41cm "thick", and only weighs about 20kg.

It's based on sony's 3LCD technology, and IMHO has a much better picture than any DLP based rear projection TV, as well as every single plasma/LCD tv under the 5000USD mark. (40-60 inch plasmas in the 2-3k range have HORRIBLE picture)

The 42 incher is around 1600usd here, and its probably cheaper over there.
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it isn't a feasible size, 32 inch Sony bravia LCD TV, V or W version is a good buy, they are quite pricey but they have the best picture ive seen from any LCD TV (imho)

I would also recommend the Philips 32 inch LCD TV, but its a little bit more expensive than the Sony here, and while it does have a few more features, its pictuare quality isnt as good.

I love the samsung flatscreen (the way it looks) and the Sony Bravia series is supposed to be really good.

Just as an FYI, I bought a Sony WEGA a couple years ago and within a few months, the front I/O panel started malfunctioning and I no longer could use it for my PS2 console. The Sony I had before that only lasted 4 years before crapping out.

I'll never buy a Sony TV again.

you sure its not just due to other factors jt? like having it somewhere too humid, too hot, etc.

Ive personally got/used/had 5 Sony TV's, out of which only one "died" (couldve replaced the picture tube, but got a new TV instead).

16' black and white sony tv from god knows when, still going strong.
28' trinitron from the early 80's, still going strong.
32' trinitron from 94 (picture tube failed after 11 years of use)
50' KFE50A10E, dad has had it for a good 8 months, no problems so far.
50' KFE50A10E. that ive had for a good 3 months, no problems so far.

Ive also got/used/had 3 Sony VCR's, all of which still work, and all of which have been bought in the late 80's.

One Sony DVD Player from about 2000, still works great, as well as a sony home theater system that has been flawless.

Hm, that's interesting. I wonder how you've gotten such good fortume with yours. Nah, my house (especially back then) was never too hot or too cold..so humidity and heat were never a factor. In the summer I run my AC practically 24/7.

maybe because most of them are "golden oldies", and they used to build stuff better before..

i.e. not one of them is a 1995-2005 model, (TV) maybe they've had some sort of quality issues lately.
