Although I don't agree with everything WuTang said, I agree to the extent that it seems the Academy tends to vote for bodies of work that push the societal envelope. If you paid attention to George Clooney's acceptance speech in the beginning of the show, he implied that very trend. But I think it's a positive influence. Anything that helps increase social equality is a good thing.Comment

ive heard brokeback mountain is essentially one large romantic drama (a type of movie i despise) and people are just pretending to like it because it has gay people in it. if i hate romantic dramas is there any reason whatsoever for me to see this movie? im not a fan of watching any long, drawn-out, passionate kisses on the big screen unless its two attractive women, i dont care who a man as kissing as long as there is already one involved, thus ruining everything.5:gen> man
