    Need some help.

I am looking to purchase a handheld system to carry with me when I go places. I obviously care about graphics but I also want to play games that are fun. Battery life is an issue. What do you suggest?

It's really going to depend on what kind of games you're into. Few games will be on both systems, and even then they'd be drastically different.

Today I will be listing DS software.

                      Super Mario 64 DS
Portable 3d Mario platforming, and this time you get to be WARIO. You'll hear a lot of complaints about controls, but this is only if you dare to touch the screen, mash buttons instead and you will have a much more fun time with the game. A absolute must play if you didn't already go through it on the home console version.

                      Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
It is here, 12 button portable 2d castlevania, and it rocks. Nevermind the story isn't as fantastic for soma and crew this time around, the gameplay more than makes up for it. Konami has included some nice innovations in play what with the two extra buttons they get to work with. The action is solid, and the RPG stat number crunching and item/soul GET effect is pulled off greatly, the only downside is when you have to touch the screen for the seals, which doesn't get too bad until the end. God how many times I had to keep retrying that seal on death and that fire demon. The best part about this and most Castlevanias: More JoJo references than you can shake a stick at, more is always better, and only Capcom tries to bring them out as much as Konami and Iga do.

                      Metroid Prime: Hunters
This is the first good Metroid game since super, people will knock it because it would seem to be mostly a multiplayer game, however the single player is by no means unplayable, and is actually a FPS unlike the gamecube games. Again, go with buttons and you'll have fun, touch a screen to aim and I guarantee you'll have issues, it is best to avoid it whenever possible. The only unfortunality of it is that in order to change weapons at all you have to touch it, and you can't even do it while paused and there is no button that allows you to change your weapon in game in spite of the fact they COMPLETELY forgot to implement the select button for ANYTHING when they EASILY could've used it for weapon switch, or from switching between combat and scan view. Again, touching is tedious, but the game is far from unplayable.

                      Mario Kart DS
If you absolutely need portable kart racing, here it is. While, it is nowhere even close to Mario Kart 64, it still easily beats out Super Circuit and Double Dash, ten times over. Even if you aren't rocking compatible wifi, this game still reimburses the player by containing more unlockables than any Mario Kart game to date, to rack up the possible playing hours with a single person.

                      Tetris DS
                      TETRIS
Though I will admit, I would have rather gotten Tetris Attack DS than this, but I'm sure they'll chomp out a panel de pon cart soon enough (as if I haven't bitched at them enough to do it already) only unfortunality about it is it'll probably be painted with pokemon instead of that baller Yoshi, or the OG fairies.

                      Bomberman
Bomberman portable, bomb laying across two screens, 8 player wifi battles.

                      The rest are imports
                      Daigasso: Band Brothers
THE buttons based music game of the DS, better than most if not all music games I've ever played. The only thing that even comes close in fun is bust-a-groove.

                      OSU! Tatake Ouendan
The ONLY touchscreen game you'll find on this list, it is a music game as well, however with this one you'll only be touching the screen, hitting numbered circles and doing various things to the beat of some Japanese music industry tunes, never heard the songs before, but this is easily the only touchscreen only game I have liked and will ever continue playing.

Here's a list of horrible games that people think are good:
KIRBY (kirby literally IS cursed to the canvas in this one, and ever so painfully so)
                      Feel the Magic
                      Super Princess Peach (fuck ittttt)
Nanostray (shoot em ups are great, and there definitely needs to be more rails ones overall, but touchscreen weapons changing for the fuck lose)

Also, if you like sudoku even a tiny bit and aren't too much of a bitch to what you consider a game, get Brain Age for sure. Oh and the beatNES game in electroplankton can be pretty cool/fun.

Don't forget about what's coming out in the near future:

New Super Mario Bros., the first true SMB title since the SNES.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass.
Final Fantasy III, the last FF game to be released in North America.
Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana, a continuation of Square's Mana series.

                              Sure sounds like fun, maybe.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass.
If it doesn't turn out to be a better game than Link's Awakening I won't be pleased.
Final Fantasy III, the last FF game to be released in North America.
We can only hope its the last final fantasy released ever.
Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana, a continuation of Square's Mana series.
Same as zelda, but seiken is in a much worse boat since none of them past the first one has been worth playing.
