    p.s. thanks everybody
that actually is a problem with the Ipod one of the people I know had it too it didn't do anything anymore think this was a shuffle though so if I was you I would try it on another computer and I also got very good experience with Acer laptops which are usually also a pretty good deal for the money

          Don't give into Dell.

Toshiba or HP laptops are pretty nice. Gamers- Alienware. IBM Thinkpads can withstand so much abuse.

Is it anywhere near as easy to homebuild a laptop as it is to a desktop PC?

It's hard as hell, you can barely get the parts it is usually more expensive and it just not worth it 99% of the time.

Yep. Hence, Dell's absurd $10,000 dollar gaming PC.

It would be cool to just do some upgrades. I have a friend with an aging laptop. It would be nice to slap in some more memory.

Yes, you can do it with a mini. But you have to do it a couple GB at a time, it'd be much easier with 40GB.

                        Have you tried these things:

It's definately a powerhouse in the laptop world. I also like the 17" widescreen and 2 gigs of ram, not to mention the 2 video in/outputs for doing DVD editing. Has a great ATI video card in it.

This laptop is more of a desktop replacement as it is size and weight play a factor! Battery life is not the longest at 1.5 hrs. But the fact that it is still portable...works for me.

There are tons of long lasting battery life laptops out there, that are small and quick, but personally....I hate the micro keyboards on some and minimal screen sizes. Depends on what you will use it for, but the HP ZD8000 is awesome & I hate HP!
I guess it was wrong of me to assume that all HP computers are the worst just becuase the one we got at home is. It's not even a laptop/notebook.

The desktop computer we got at home, a HP Pavilion w5400, is a total disaster.

I agree 100% on the HP Desktops!

its easy to change disk and memory on many laptops. get a skrewdriver and open it up.
