But now you're implying that they want to stay and become citizens of this country. The bulk of the money they earn here is sent back to their families in Mexico. They don't come here to mooch off of our system, nor do they come here to ruin our country. They come here because their country's economy is unstable and not rewarding. Why earn .75 cents an hour working for an American company's plant in Mexico, when they could come to America, pick oranges, a job that people want them to do, and earn 5.00 an hour? In fact, the majority of Mexicans would rather live in their country, the problem is, that it is impossible to live in that country and earn the wages needed to raise a family. They, just like us, work to put food on the table for their families. While they may be milking the American system to provide for their families, it is still survival for them.

Can everyone please just agree that welfare is the problem here? Hell once you're on welfare there isnt even a point in trying to get a job, since the second you do they cut your money. Why waste time working when you get almost the same for doing nothing?

Good luck getting welfare eliminated (As much as I agree with you about it ) any time in the near future. As long as it provides genuine emergency help to a small portion of the population I can't see it being cut.

Wonder if you take classes in order to be as wrong as you frequently are.

Several years ago they put a limit on welfare as an assistance program that sets a 2 year lifetime welfare allowance. That is to say, after two years, you're out in the cold and can never get it again. Which is impetus to get off it should you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to need the assistance in the first place.

i dont have much problem with illegal immigrants, i am definitely sympathetic. the people that HIRE illegal immigrants (especially huge companies) can go fuck themselves. that said, shit like re-writing the national anthem to sound like a crappy spanish pop song, changing the lyrics, and then singing the changed song in spanish is not getting illegal immigrants any more sympathy in my mind. the star spangled banner is in english, if you like our country so much, learn to speak english. if youve gotta translate it to spanish because you havent been in the country long enough to speak english, at least dont change the verses.

my worry with illegal immigration is that what is the benefit to obtaining citizenship legally if its easier to just hop the border to get it illegally?

They just get fake social security cards, birth certificates and names to go along with all those documents. I used to volunteer at a DES (Welfare) office, I've seen them. I must say, some of the documents are really well made, and of course, some look like a 5th grader drew them during recess. If there is a rule, there is a way to break it.

So pretty much you're defending the current welfare system and saying that it is hard to abuse? You're intelligent. It's very common knowledge that the system is being raped and abused right now. While I agree with chao that nothing is going to be done about it, I still am sure that its the reason why things are the way they are. You say these ******s are just doing the jobs no one else wants to for cheaper (illegal) pay. Thats bullshit, if those people that are unemployed arent skilled enough for better jobs, they should take what they can get right? These illegal ******s are undermining our economy by working like they do, not just in taxes but in taking jobs away from people who then are forced (or decide) to live on welfare. Unsure how you can defend them and say they help our economy by undermining laws

The immigrant workers wouldn't be able to "Undermine" the law if we didn't let them. Like I said before, more stringent rules have to be put on business before you see any change.

but you're being unrealistic. Politicians are rich, thus they aren't going to do anything to screw over themselves, and their rich friends. Hence why they are going for the result of the problem for the solution, and not the root, as you suggested.

I didn't say that. Squeezer said that and he's wrong, and notice how I managed to write this without a single epithet.

They don't take jobs that nobody else wants, companies get away with paying shit, because they'll work for anything. Without them they have to pay enough to get actual legal citizens to do the work. That increases the price of stuff, but better that the person doing the job makes a better legal wage, than having every cent saved just going into the pockets of the business owner.

I'm not sure if it's completely like that. I think people are more ready to solve the problems that they can see and understand. It's easier to see 11 million immigrants and the :light: goes off "NO TAXES!?!?!.. DEPORT THEM!!" or cut off social security but there's no quick fix here.

I have yet to mention anything on welfare, but you know I'm right. Americans would rather be homeless, and jobless than work a job where they're paid minimum wage to work in a physically demanding field. I actually did take Poverty In America, a college level course, and we had a whole section on Welfare reform. If you have children, the govt will very rarely cut you off of Welfare. They (the govt) are not heartless. I know that the law states that they cut you off after two years, but the fact of the matter is that people still find a way to milk welfare. One such way is to claim disability. You can find a doctor that can deem you incapable of work. Ta da! Another is to have more children....again TA DA! There are loop holes in the system, and to say I'm wrong that people receive welfare their whole lives is being naiive, as is saying that the average American will do these jobs that aliens are doing.

Now, Chao, yes, it is at that state. Seriously, many of the people in power today are wealthy. They get money, to get elected from corporations, who in turn ask favors. They're not going to shoot themselves, and the people that had them elected in the foot by passing some major legislation that does more than the upper 5% any good. It's the world we live in. 84% of this country deems the war in Iraq unneccisary, yet those in power are doing nothing about it. Meanwhile, companies like Haliburton, and men like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are making money. It is to that point, where instead of making a significant change, they find a scapegoat. Most of America, being either too ignorant, too indigant, or being in a state of not caring, agree with the politicians, and thus we blame the Mexicans for our current problems. Maybe if we didn't have the baby boom, or the Iraq war, and we weren't the economic crutch for the rest of the world, things wouldn't be in the state they are today. But, maybe's are hypotheticals, which are no good to discuss anyways. The wealthy of our country don't care though, as long as they stay wealthy, so thus we, the middle and lower classes are screwed.

And Kolar, I agree, but that is indeed what the govt. is suggesting right now. Let's build bigger walls, and allow illegials to still live here, but crack down on anyone who hires them, so that way they have no money on which to live. Then, they have kids, and get welfare and other social services through their kids. No matter what we do, they will find loop holes. So why change anything? It's not the aliens that are fucking up the system.
