"no, it's Monday, which of course means it's ethnic day, so ill be going with Rosalita"
I don't believe anything of the bible of this gospel tugs..
I just think it's not even a bad idea to think of judas as a pivotal point in christianity without giving him a negative role. Didn't jesus die for a higher cause? The forgiveness of mankind and shit? Then didn't Judas just betray jesus for a higher cause? Eventho he betrayed a friend and someone he followed, he did it for a higher cause and thus wasn't that wrong?
I don't give a crap either way, I just don't think the gospel is impossible, and kind of logical when you think about it.
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.
i mean, really, just because a guy played an important role in the easter story, does that make him good? If it wasnt for satan, we wouldn't need saving, and therefore Jesus wouldn't have died for our sins.
The term Satan was not used nor a thought in the days of the Roman occupation of Judea. Satan was a fabrication of the catholic church, if I am not mistaken?
Jesus did not die for my sins...that I can tell you! I mean, if I went around saying I am going to get myself in a bind and then executed just so I can die for your sins, they would put me away!
Perhaps the people of Judea & the occupying Roman Govt. looked at Christ in the same way we looked at David Koresh. We all thought he was a wack job & perhaps the people of Judea and the Romans thought the same about Jesus? The followers of Koresh still think of him as a prophet, yet the masses think he was a loony!
Until I have a time machine and can go back in time and video the life of Jesus, I think it is mostly a story that was imbelished for morals of the people of those times. Considering that quite alot of the bible was taken from generations of stories passed down by word of mouth...one can only think of the game "whisper down the lane". The Dark Ages where a time that one can honestly say that the keeping of written history vanished except for what Monks had scribed from verbal folklore.
But if this is all crap and what I am saying is crap too...then in 1000 yrs, L. Ron Hubbard will be looked at as a mesiah as well!
One can argue religion to the enth degree...and it only causes trouble. I may be doing that as well...but to be skeptical is also good, rather to just be a follower. If we did not question such things, we would be a race of idiots that should still be swinging from a tree!
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.
Let me rephrase. The words that are printed in the bible are not what the original gospels contained. They have been sifted through hundreds of translations, let alone the Catholic Church and it's contortions on what is Canon and what is not.

404, doing a simple search on bible.com shows satan is in a number of old testament books, as well as new testament books. While i'm sure there's a lot of catholic dogma surrounding satan, i dont think he was fabricated, since he's been in the scriptures for longer.
fandango, that depends on the version of bible you're using. The king james version of the old testaments comes from the septuagint, which was the greek translation of hte original hebrew, so it was translated twice. the king james new testament was only translated once.
other versions, like new international version, were translated from the multiple original sources with footnotes when they were different (note: different not contradictory, as far as i've seen they generally dont contradict)
furthermore, people can go out and get what's known as a concordance that will help them to know the sense of every word in the original language.
altogether, i don't think translation from language to language has changed it.
and 404, i hope it's evident in my posts that i think stuff through. This comes from being skeptical. So i guess i'm just saying that skepticism doesn't necessarily lead to atheism. (or whatever belief you subscribe to)
Old testament huh? Hmmm...well I guess your not Jewish then, because there is no such thing as hell or satan in the Jewish religion. The only thing that stands out to me in the Bible, is that vereyone was slepping with everyone and then of course the killings that go hand in hand. Very violent book in essence.
I am agnostic as well.
BTW...I heard that Alfred E. newman wrote the New Version of the Bible...even comes with a fold out last page that when you fold it correctly Jesus appears to be giving you the finger.
It's a roundabout answer as to what is considered an equal to hell I guess, yet it left out the central air conditioning, membership to the Friars Club, good Kosher Deli's plus room service!
I still do not see anything that notes Satan from that link or did I miss that. It's May 5th...Tequila day!!! Started to early today. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Nice job though on finding the Hell part...even though it is not Hell as one would see if they read or believe in the writings know as Dante's Inferno. That would be a great remake in todays Movies with all the special efx of today.
I hate Politics and Religion....so why do I even rant about this crap?
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.
i don't know if the current state of jewish religion even enters into it.
It's probably changed in the last 2000 years too.
i think scriptures stay constant compared to people's beliefs.
That being said, i think some good proof that the concepts of hell and satan existed before the roman influence can be found in the bible.
i refer you to the story of Job. Satan plays a huge part in this story, and it was written well before the jews and romans had made contact.
about hell itself, our concept of hell has been influenced a bit by roman concept of hades, but that is not to say they are the same, or had the same origins. That link does talk about a few of the words found in the old testament that we understand as hell today. the existence of hell was one of the divisive topics in the jewish religion in the days of Jesus. this can be seen in a couple stories in the 4 gospels. In these stories, a pharisee asks him something about what happens after death. From the many talks i've heard on these stories, it seems that any such question was in itself an attempt to trap Jesus into taking sides on the existence of life after death.
i hear you about political and religion discussions though. For me, i dont like them because too many people are just there to put forth their opinion, and dont bother listening to anyone else. i hope i'm not doing that.

I'd be getting my shotgun and aiming for his head. That is the only way you can kill a zombie.
the king james new testament was only translated once.
Saying the KING JAMES VERSION of the bible is the most trustworthy is the funniest of all, considering it is the loosest translation out there. I did a whole fucking thesis paper on the definition of Faith and its subsequent relation with society, and this was a huge topic. The editor of this original KJV version acknowledged it was full of errors and admitted he was pressured to release it before other competition. Apparently, they also changed around the meanings of Greek words to make the text, idea, and print all match.

You think that's good? He apparently cured a Leper! And then, this one time, He walked on water! Oh that was a doozy.
