  • Talk about Da Vinci Code without spoilers

I noticed Da Vinci Code had score of 6 in imdb and thought if some people who don't like their religion being mocked are voting low, or is the movie genuinely just average?

Should I read the book first, or see the movie first?

I usually decide whether to see a movie or not based on professional critical input, and the critics are pretty much shithammering the movie for lame chemistry between Hanks and that french slut, and lame direction by Howard.

Looks like I'll wait for DVD, which is disappointing. I was really looking forward to seeing the movie.

They switched up a bunch of events, also changed a few things as to not talk about sex so much (the ritual specifically, the book talks about that kind of stuff more). Just a lot of details left out, but with good reason, fitting all that stuff in there would have made the movie at least another 30 minutes longer. I enjoyed the movie, I didn't who had read the book, nor my wife who hasn't, left thinking 'wow that was a great movie,' but it was worth the 7 dollars regardless

The book is a lot better than the movie, the movie is simply put, crap.

i got to see the movie for free, and was given free food beforehand, i still think it was a waste of an evening.

                stay away like the plague.

I read the book a year ago so I didn't notice any blatant discrepancies except for the aformentioned lack of depth on the ritual. It was obviously sex though when they showed it. Obviously if you hold it up to the standards of the book you will be disappointed because no movie is EVER as good as the book. Looking at it from a movie standpoint however, I thought it was quite good.

The pacing of the novel is better than it is in the film. With the novel, the rapid cuts and fast pacing makes it hard for readers to put the book down, but that doesn't carry over well into film.

For those of us that had read the book, we understood the importance of the search. According to my wife however (who hasn't read the book) the movie explains it, but doesn't portray the quest's importance enough to really capture the audience.

Watch that Behind The Da Vinci Code documentary. I think it's on the Discovery Channel or History Channel.
