  • Summer Reading

I need some summer reading suggestions.

To TK: Are there any good modern John Irving books? I've read A Widow for One Year, A Prayer for Owen Meany, The World According to Garp, and The Hotel New Hampshire.

    Heres my current list:
    1) Cider House Rules - John Irving
    2) The Godfather - Mario Puzo
    3) A Game of Thrones - George Martin
    4) The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoevsky

Are any of the following books good?:
    - What's Eating Gilbert Grape - Peter Hedges?
    - The Dark Tower series - Stephen King
    - Boy's Life - Robert McCammon
    - One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
    - The Horned Man - James Lasdun

I bought a Nick Hornby book at the supermarket the other day as I needed some cashback and it turns out to be all about suicide. Great

I'm re-reading The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene.

      Next up: Milton's Paradise Lost.

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy O'toole is by far the funniest book I have ever read.

I've had God's Debris by Scott Adams suggested to me several times. Perhaps I'll get around to reading it.

I've read Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Autumn of the Patriarch by Marquez. I loved them both; especially Chronicle though because Autumn is a tough read. I've been meaning to read One Hundred Years because I've heard it to be it's best.

It's still true, but the book looks funny.

if u are in to war books here are 2:
Rumor of War by Philip Caputo
Ghost Soldiers Hampton Sides (The Great Raid movie is based on it)

I read them both and they are really interesting books. They never get boring.

I agree. It was interesting, but jesus christ did it take forever to read.

That and "Heart of Darkness." Both good stories, just very bland.

Going to read Dan Brown's Deception Point as the first thing this summer. Then I'll go for Salvatore's Icewind Dale trilogy since I read the first trilogy some years ago and liked it. Dunno what else, prolly some Nietzsche.
