To people wondering about where you go to college mattering.. I got accepted to every college I applied to (UC Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz; San Jose State, Cal Poly SLO, and Sonoma State), and decided to go to Sonoma State because I liked the pretty trees. I'm working for Apple right now.

It doesn't matter what you know or where you go.. it's all about WHO you know. Seriously. Make contacts. It's easier to make useful contacts at a prestigious school, because you're surrounded by other ambitious people, but that's about as far as location matters. Imho.
I'm going to Cal Poly SLO. =)

Hmm I got 1480/1600 on the SATs in my only try back in grade 10, 760 and 780 on Math II and Biology... then I realized I couldn't afford to go to university in America so I realized I wasted my time LOL. At least I didn't prepare at all for those tests.

As for what college you go to... it depends what your goals in life are really. It's not enough about money. In all honesty in Canada right now, we are majorly short on trades people. A plumber or electrician could make $100,000/year if they worked hard. In fact the plumber who fixed our pipes at my house at school laughed at us for working so hard. He was 30 with 3 trucks, a house, 2 cars and a boat all paid for and was ready to retire in 5 years with just running his plumbing company.

Of course if your goals is to recieve a quality education, it's better to go to a good school. Why? Because you are surrounded by the best people, more resources, and top notch research opportunities.

If your goals are to get into a post-grad program (masters, phd) it's probably good to go to a good school because reference letters from famous people matter a lot in order to get into the best programs. Better programs = better research opportunities = better tenure jobs in the future.

If your goals are to get into a good professional program, as long as your school isn't shit it's fine. You might need some reference letters (probably not important), but the most important is to get good grades and sufficient education to pass the LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, etc.

If your goals are to get a good job, the better the school you go to, the smarter and more ambitious the people you'll be around and the more contacts you'll make. Also being in an environment of people who work hard, naturally will inspire you to work harder (in general) and thus help you in that regard. IF you go to a party school, you may find yourself regressing into a huge slacker and that will affect your job prospects in the future.

But generally if you're like most people who just want to get by decently in the middle class, the most important thing is to go somewhere you think you may enjoy. Make friends, enjoy your university experience to it's fullest. The real world is very different and you'll never have the same amount of freedome that you have in university again. Now that I'm entering the workforce myself and see the endless days that approach me, I wish I made
more of my years in university!

P.S. Kim, I'm sure I'll need a secretary in the future, maybe you can apply.. but then you aren't a hot girl

Can anyone explain the new SAT scoring system? I have no idea which numbers are really good and which ones are just good.

Also: ACT is more popular in the East in the US, SAT more popular where I am, in the West. I wish I would have taken ACT, I read about and it seemed much more "common sense" than "let's ask you a bunch of random stuff to see how much you remember," but I couldnt find a testing site to let me sign up for it

Actually, that's not true. CT had the highest percentage of students taking SATs in the whole nation.

I'll be a senior next year. Unfortunately, I won't be taking the SAT until August (yeah, I'm taking a chance that everything will go smoothly). My GPA is something like 3.91... I'm ranked 9th out of 550+ in class rank.

Oh, and SAT II's are jack shit. Don't take those. I took Math, Biology, and Chemistry and got 670 on all of them. I was pissed off.

Oh, one of my ex-girlfriends (the valedictorian or our class) took the SAT in April and got a 2390. She was mad. Pwned.

I got a 229 on my PSAT though. And I want to go to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. That's sort of close to you, right DTF?

ACT had a way better format, even back before the SAT change. Now it's no contest.

SAT's are looked upon more by schools on the East Coast than the mid-west or west. ACT are usually not the tests offered by High Schools on the East Coast. SAT's are offered at almost every H.S., yet the ACT's you may need to drive to another county or city to take them here in the East.

NY, CT, VT, NH, ME, PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA, SC & NC are SAT states not ACT...they will allow them, butthe SAT usually comes 1st.

Odd, considering the SAT test was made up from Professors in CA.

                      3.8 / 4.0 Unweighed Scale
                      34 / 36 on ACT

Trying to figure out where I want to go to college at still. Probably going to end up going to UMich unless I get some ungodly scholarship to some other prestigeous out of state school.

Hero* BC is awesome btw...am sure you know that since your going to attend next year. Boston is a great College City. Went to many a party at BC, Emerson and BU....not to leave out the short drive to URI. Make sure you travel down to URI in the Westerly, RI area if you have the chance since it's all so close in prox. Only thing that sucks in Boston is the parking!!!!!!!!

I was just going to say something extremely similar, but you beat me, as per usual, to the punch.

It's more or less a work thing with me when I type on the forums. I do not really pay too much attention to my where or were. Easy to do...and I catch them as much as I can, but that results in an edit.

                              btw...knoe is actually know

I graduated in 2003 with a 3.25 GPA. I got a 1290 on the SATs and thought I was hot shit, but damn your all making me feel dumb. Anyway, I went to Rutgers University for Engineering for a year but failed out due to rooming with my best friend / going out and partying too much / depression towards the end of the year. When I failed out of RU, I had a 1.45 GPA through 2 semesters. So then I went to county college for 2 years and got a 3.0, GPA, which was good enough to get me back into Rutgers for this year coming up... We'll see how that works out...
