Why do so many religions spend so much time concentrating on the differences between them instead of considering the common things, like the belief in a God.
IMO this is the biggest problem with organized religions today. I ask many of my friends, who are all parents, if they take their children to other places of worship and/or expose their children to belief systems other than their own. They act shocked. Why is it such a bad thing to take your children to another place of worship? Perhaps explaining 'this is not exactly what I believe in, but look how they believe in God too". Or "Look how this way of believing also teaches morals and being a good person".

Instead most religions spend a lot of time trying to bad mouth the other beliefs, some even going to the extend of saying that you will burn in hell unless you follow their belief system. Humans suck.

So next time some 'holier-than-thou' type is standing there espousing their belief system as the only way to think, question them about the amount of time they have spent visiting other places of worship, or if they find anything good (and common) in other religions. You will find many of them close minded and bigoted.

Some valid points. I am not christian, yet I have visited and attended services in some very historic as well as architectural masterpeices of churches throughout Europe. I had no problems with this & oddly enough, these churches are sometimes the centerpieces for vacationers/tourists traveling about.

What is annoying is to have someone push their religion upon others. How many answer the door to talk with Jehovah Witness' and how many ignore them knocking?

Evangelistic traits in any religion are annoying. How many people regardless of age, country or current religion, enjoy having someone preach and push their belief on you? If someone really felt that you need to take acid to see how life really is and they went around door to door pushing it on people, would that be acceptable? I was annoyed months ago when I discovered everyone in the metro Philly area got a DVD from San Diego, from an evangelical group, with the story of Christ. Firstly, the DVD got tossed, but I used the plastic DVD case for a copy of Harold & Kumar! But seriously, if the church that sent this wants to do good in society, why not use the monies for the DVD production and mailing costs to help children within the country that are living in dismal conditions with no food or a lack of clothes and education? This would make sense! but rather than take action, they feel justified in their spreading of Gods word with propaganda rather than making a difference in society itself.

Your on the mark in regards to they all worship a god. Just that everyone thinks their god is the almighty and better than yours.

Unitarian Churches are interesting, as they preach to everyone and do not exclude anyone, regardless of the religion.

It's simple, if there's no effort put into getting more people to donate money for the cause of helping the needy, eventually those people will run out. So it only makes sense that a little money is used (how much money does it cost to print a dvd anyway?) to get others to follow along.

And I should also mention, if you're so quick to question people their authenticity to helping the needy, why aren't you out saving the world instead of posting on a 2d spaceship game forum? Of course the question can be posed to me and anyone else.

On the other hand, if you are speaking from the church itself (the line belonging to the vatican) they have more then enough money. They don't need donations to feed the world.

Side note, Today I read that the world second richest man (not anymore) forgot his name, he is worth 44 billion dollars, gave 30 billion dollars to the Bill Gates foundation.

I do donate my time to the Philadelphia neighborhood rehabilitation organization, of which is a NON religion Non profit Volunteer based group that gathers clothes, food and cleans vacant blocks in the city with tree's/gardens...removing trash for a more liveable city. I do this once to twice a month. I am also active in the Voting Polls in PA as I volunteer at the polls during elections. I am also currently working with the Ben Franklin Tercentennial organization & The local Association on the beautification of forgotten landmarks and historical monuments, by working and assisting in the grant writing procedures that accompany this. I do help clean up the blighted neighborhoods in my city. And fortunately for me andthe rest of the volunteers, that this is out of wanting to do this and not based upon false religious guilt!

So ÆNIMA...what do you do besides post on a forum? Care to share?

BTW...The only reason I post here on the forums, is that I have time to do so while at work. I actually do not have to work, but I do so because I enjoy it!
