  • A Scanner Darkly

The movie is good, funny at times but I had problems hearing some of it so I didn't get the full picture. I also got bored in the last 10 minutes of the movie, writing this poor review while watching the end actually. I started reading the book about 6 months back but put it down after about 50 pages, so I can't really make a comment on book to movie comparisons. Keanu isn't the greatest actor in the world but I think he put up a reasonable performance. Visual effects of the movie are quite nice, I would recommend seeing it sometime.

Solid movie, Linklater's made better but I was never not enjoying myself.

Yeah, yeah, it plays over the credits. There's a tiny tiny snippet of Amnesiac in the movie too, it really flits by though.

Originally the rumour was that Radiohead were going to sdtk the whole movie, but it didn't pan out.

i've read the book and went to see the film a few weeks ago.

Its hard to be subjective about the film when you've read the book , as going in to see it with prior knowledge means that i found it easy to follow the plot. Whereas if i hadn't maybe i would of daydreamed and lost it and thought it was a stupid film?

Anyhow i enjoyed it, it wasn't great and the way they did the Scramble suit was a little annoying but it was a very hard thing to bring to the screen.

Still there was a diversion from the book i didn't like, i knew it was an adaptation and didn't even mind them combining the characters off Fabin & Freck into one, probably to cut production costs. It was other stuff.

Donna's character was alot colder and more remote, like when she was talking about her future to Arctor and he asks can he go with her, she says yes . i'm pretty sure in the book she says no. Also when she turns down his advances in the book she says "no your ugly" which is what pissed off arctor, in the film it skipped that bit and blamed it entirely on her drug addiction. This paints a rosier picture off her and since the film is ment to be a dark film i didn't think these were worthwhile changes but more to appease the masses and make it more romantic.
