EiG: What you say is all more or less true. But of course it's rare and somewhat difficult for school authority figures to deal with this sort of thing. Leaving things the way they are maintains a status quo and generally doesn't get them yelled at, whereas active interference is breaking the status quo and lots of people will complain about the interference, some morons will talk about how the teachers/students are pussies, and others will make generalizations based on their personal experiences that do not really apply to the situation at hand. So it's much safer to be like "kids will be kids" or "you should try to fit in more" or say or do similar things which have no real effect.

Ultimately it may have to do with kids having a natural propensity for being idiotic in nature and not necessarily empathetic, which is bourne out each day in public chat in TW. My experiences are much less severe than yours (only had problems in 1 class in 1 year) but nevertheless I have some impression of how things might have been for you.

Bob (SRB): Depressing thing is how many people there are like megaman89. Strangely enough I'd take the guess that the people who are most scornful of such people are also the ones who are most similar.

Shit, I'd never witnessed anything along those lines in any of the schools I've been to. As I said, the bullying was significantly less dramatic, and the people that were bullied were a lot weirder (or in many cases meaner) than just having ADHD and being new in school. I figured the type of bullying you described was reserved for Lifetime Original Movies. I still think with some good advice you might have been able to turn it around, or at least get to the point where those kids ignored you instead of being mean to you and found your own clique. That's why I think my point stands that counselling for the kids being bullied is a much better use of money than trying to covince bullies to act any different. However, that's as likely as a gifted kid with ADD getting the help he needs to not let schoolwork be a living nightmare.

On that note, what's your ADD website? I'm not keen on diagnosing myself with shit, but I clearly have ADD if such a disorder exists. It'd be interesting to see some advice from others with the same tendencies, as advice from other people doesn't apply to me in the slightest. "Just, like, make a list or something, durrrrrrrrrrr" I basically just can't keep shit clean or organized for the life of me and it's annoying as shit. That and I've come to the realization that I'm pretty much never going to be able to read a texbook.

Back to the original discussion though, I really suspect you're selling yourself short by thinking that being emotionally introverted is the only thing that kept you from shooting up a school at random.

A school got shot up in the uk (dunblame massacre) around 1998 i think but i doubt anyone here rembers/ knows about it. It resulted in all handguns being banned in the uk.

The difference in all these cases to the US one is this

In the concumbine maccarce it was the STUDENTS who shot up the skool.
In the uk and canada it was the work of a derranged adult.

          Thats the difference.

Everyone gets bullied at school to some degree and in later life at work there will be bullies, its how u deal with them that matters. Being a victim is a choice.

Then again in the uk school is different to america and canada. Kids just leave or dont bother going or change school if it pisses them off or they kill themselves if they dont get pissed off, killing other people doesnt really happen... idk the kids who shoot up skools i suspect are not bullied as much as the ones who kill themseleves.

Yes, just like how it's the fault of rape victims that they got raped.

Look, in all situations there are ways to advert coming out on the losing end, but failure to successfully do that does not mean that being a victim is a choice, unless you really believe in the just-world hypothesis, karma/reincarnation cycle, or similar stuff.

I'm on the fence about "bullying is not a choice" to be honest. I think it clearly depends on the situation, but as I said, when it came to the kids I saw being made fun of in high school (as I said, I wouldn't describe it as bullying) it really depended on how the person reacted to joking around initially. People who decided to take every little joke really seriously ended up being the butt of most jokes. Not that I expect kids of that age to know exactly how to react in every situation, but I think it isn't just completely independant of the kid being bullied's actions.

When I was in eighth grade I was sort of a mean little fucker, I didn't really say or do much that was too bad but I was part of the group that sat around and laughed while my friends made fun of people. There was a girl we'd make fun of because when my friend would sort of flirt with her (in eighth grade, you flirt with everybody just for the hell of it, but this girl wasn't attractive so she took it as an insult) she would flip out and scream at him. If she had flirted back, hell, we might have been friends with her. Since she was a total bitch about it, we found it entertaining that we could do something that wasn't bad at all, and this crazy girl was such a jerk that she would scream and yell and hurl personal insults about it. About four years later, I found out my girlfriend was kind of friends with this girl, and I was like "why are you friends with that piece of shit, that girl is mean as hell." She said, "WHAT? SHE WASN'T MEAN, IT WAS YOU GUYS THAT WERE PERSECUTING HER BLAH BLAH" Of course, when this girl had been telling the story of how these horribly mean boys ruined her self-esteem in eighth grade, she left out the part where initially we were just being nice to her and joking around and she took it completely the wrong way and was really bitchy. We certainly never called her a nazi or vandalized her property, so this doesn't really apply to EiG's story, but I think a lot of the time, it is a choice to be a victim, just based on how you react to innocuous jokes.
