I've noticed that many girls enjoy electronics. They don't leave their house without mp3 players and cellphones. Since your gf is dating a nerd (yourself) it might be true for her. I got my gf an mp3 player and she thought it was the best ever. That's out of your price range, but at least it gives you a broad category of stuff to consider. Maybe you can find an electronic thing at some store that like, I dunno, can be used as some cute decoration for the gf or sisters room.
The old standbys like flowers, chocolates, and jewelry usually work pretty good. Earings or something. Or, maybe you can think of something one of them needs. Accessory for something they use all the time? Good luck, we've been no help hahahaSpider
