I managed to say everything in that post except for what I was trying to say - if you want to be staff you should acknowledge that your number one priority is to make the game enjoyable for those who play it, and insulting people who question anything is not how you achieve that. Despite all your achievements behind the scenes you're neglecting the fundamental role of your job - catering for the people's needs. This forum needs an admin who is involved in the forums and who has some kind of dialogue with the people who use it (ie the reason you're here) if any future decisions are to be at all relevant. Focus on getting something that works well before making something that looks nice

What if the people who volunteer to run the game do so in the player's best interests, and not just what is deemed the player's best interests by those staffing the forums?

Therefore if you want to become staff and assume that position of responsibility you should acknowledge one of the key responsibilities - using the position to enhance people's enjoyment of the game and not deciding that everyone else is ungrateful, when what they want from the game is a courteous staff that takes time to offer their reasoning and be accountable for their decisions, as opposed to someone who has decided they are untouchable and it is their perogative to talk down to the mass of inferior beings who don't know the facts before they comment.

I've seen the situation from both sides and what's clear is that people don't need to know the facts to comment on any immediate grievances they have - if they feel that something isn't being done right (they are being insulted when they talk to upper staff) then they have the right to demand a change. It's like someone getting shoddy service in a shop and the store manager counteracting with "but you don't know how hard I work to push down operating costs to save you, the customer, more". After all, the people running the game are operating the game in the player's best interests and so should be more than willing to bend to the player's needs, and shouldn't feel aloof and unwilling to bother with these waste-of-time-complaints. Otherwise you've got a game with a set of rules and thinking that has been formulated, moulded and imposed by yourselves (as the player base aren't deemed to know what they're talking about) to suit an entirely different community.

Reposted for about 17 different reasons. But in Rudy's defense, I'm 99% sure his sig is a reference to Fight Club. I don't think it is meant to be taken literally. That aside, there's a shitload of wisdom in there to be carried over.
