I actually like the new titles and having new skin options. I just think people are pissed off because they didn't see it coming---but that goes back to the old debate about needing a public relations oriented admin. Major changes to ANYTHING that the playerbase uses on a regular basis should be leaked in advance so people are mentally prepared for an adjustment. Look at what's happening with the Pub Arenas. Mootland and the rest of the Pub Committee have been trying to let people know that major testing/changes are coming for weeks and weeks now. This is not rocket surgery. It's human nature on the most basic, common sense level. People deserve a heads up on major environmental changes.

Honestly, I think DG's totally going in the right direction with the upgrades, and I think it's cool that she's putting the time and energy into the forum. But since she's not a part of the forum community, she didn't think it was important to ease the users into it with a transition. She just dumped it onto us. Maybe she gets some twisted joy out of agitating the forum community, or it was just an honest oversight because she suffers from nerd-syndrome---when someone is more focused on the 1's and 0's of the task than being concerned about the carbon-based life forms that will use it.

Whether it's due to her busy schedule, lack of social skills, or maybe she sees being a forum admin as nothing more than another bullet-point on her resume (CV, for you Euros). Either way, it's becoming pretty clear that the forum admins consider the community nothing more than an afterthought. Seriously, does anyone know of another forum? I'm getting really disappointed about this kind of shit becoming a weekly occurrence. It's not dramatic, nor thought provoking or funny...it's just getting old and I'm losing interest.

PS...I do like the upgrades. The incorporation of the in-game language like F1 and ?help is a clever promotional touch.

Instead, give us suggestions of some alternative titles and descriptions. We spent maybe an hour thinking them up, as we thought they needed a little revamping to go with the launch of the new, complete skin. Sure everything was simple beforehand and we're still trying to maintain that element while also looking to tie in the zone with the forum in some zany spaceship oriented fashion. Why? Because it's a forum for a 2d spaceship game. That's more than enough reason right there. Hell, ssforums stole the idea of the Wormhole right from my thought synapsis days after I originally suggested all this to DG. You don't see their members whining about it. Harden the fuck up.

Admit it, they were getting stale and was already pretty sad. For example, I had trouble keeping down my lunch every time I read Musical Differences on my screen. ZeUs knows his shit, but I fear that he was suffering from the disease known as sobriety when he had that particular subforum created.

So work with us here. Give us some constructive criticism for once. We're trying to provide you with some kind of positive experience that doesn't involve a social lynching you can beat off to. Not everything has to be a Goddamn soap opera.

As for that clause we added to the rules, I prefer it not need be exercised.
Essentially it is a safety net that states if you post material that is not suitable for these forums, but would normally escape moderation due to a technicality, it is no longer protected. We're going to be bringing in a couple of new forum smods to do the moderating grunt work that I can't seem to get away from. The last thing I want for them is to feel uncomfortable doing their job with you ravenous vultures hovering over them whenever they come across something questionable.
I'm sure she won't mind me quoting this, but DG summed up both our stances on this when she said...

The new skin is ugly, but if you like it, and you want to use it, it's good. It should however have been handeled oh so different (like a thread saying you can change it yourself and test it out, if you want too) The forum names are silly, and unfunny, and look like the well thought out jokes of a drunk. Is it a major change? No, not really, but it's yet another change to these forums in a negative way, a way in which 'the people' had no say or control over and are forced to just deal with. We're not looking for a poll everytime something has to be changed, but were looking for some sort of say for the way OUR forum is run. This is a forum for us, Isn't it?
