Didn't have time to read this whole thread since I'm leaving for work in a minute, just wanted to say/point out that atleast in my opinion finnish youngsters start drinking way before they turn 16....I'm still young imo (turning 21 in a month) and hell I started drinking when I was 14 I think. Now the times have changed since I was 14, and it feels like there's times when I see 12 year old girls smoking and drinking beer in the street corner...!!?!
Oh well, just me blabbering.
To Chao: IMO if she's 16 she might aswell try it out. I bet you did something when you were 16 aswell?Originally Posted by HeavenSent

When my sister was younger she would go out with me. That way she would be going out in a protected environment, and I would be sure she wouldn't drink too much (or do other stupid things). It helped that I myself was pretty responsible, I wouldn't leave her or get wasted or such.
You can't expect parents to know these things, especially when they are unreasonable religion freaks.
All the kids that I know, who's parents are like that would do just the same things or worse than my other friends, they just had to come up with lies and excuses to hide it from their parents.
I don't think that's a good parent-child relationship. Even if you are religious, you should allow your kid to make some mistakes in life. That way you have some control on the severity of the mistakes, so it won't become mistakes for life. (Like drug/alcohol addictions or pregnancies). You ate some priest porridge

At this point, I wouldn't tell your parents.
If you tell your parents, you risk undermining the trust between the two of you. Also, you risk invalidating any advice you might have for her. Why would you listen to the advice of a rat snitch?
It's totally normal for someone her age to be experimenting with sex, drugs and rock n roll. Until it grows into something bigger than just normal experimentation (like, she's sneaking out and getting shitfaced every weekend), I wouldn't consider it the beginning of the end of the world.
In the short term, your parents might have a right to know. But in the long term, your sister is her own person and is going to do what she wants. You will have a better chance of being a positive influence on your sister if you leave your parents out of it---for now. But if she starts getting ridiculously out of control, then you might want to tell your parents because it would seem as if she's not going to listen to you anyway.

When I was a teenager I thought that being a narc sucked, and I would not have ever thought that I would say tell your parents. But now that maturity has set in, I feel a bit different.
My personal definition of someone who has a 'problem' is when it interferes with their life, getting arrested, losing a job, losing friends, crashing cars, losing license etc. From what you said it does not appear that your sister has a 'problem'. However, you are in a moral dilemma. If you do not tell your parents and she ends up developing a 'problem', will you not be partly responsible?
I do not believe, in fact, that you should tell your parents, if anyone should tell them it should be her. Sit down with her and explain the difficult position she has put you in. She broke the rules that your parents have established, you both have to abide by these rules because you are living under their roof. When she comes of age, when she is paying for her own roof, then she can do as she wishes. But until then, she needs to stop putting herself and you in a bad position. Tell her the best thing she can do is tell your parents but that if she wants to make another decision then you will support her THIS time. (Of course you have to understand that the same goes for you, you should not be putting her in a bad position either.)

I had done synthetic THC, liquor, hash, pot, and acid by the time I was 16 (in 1973) . I hid my daily use of smoking dope from my parents for years while I lived under their roof. I left the house when I was 17 (I told them I smoked dope when I was 13 but continued doing it). I rented a house, moved two girls in (married to one of them for 20+ years now), went to college during the day, and pulled 2nd shift textile mill work to make ends meet. I walked from some very wealthy parents, lifestyle, and inherence to ‘prove my point’. So I completely understand about ‘being 16’. The flag of piracy flew from my mast, I smoked so much dope that the ZigZag man had a tattoo of ME on HIS arm.
It so happens that I have managed to smoke daily for the last 30 years without it effecting my life (no arrests, no driving issues, have a good career and life). But I also choose not to have kids, so I come into this community to try to mess with you people instead.

Why isn't your religion the oldest religion? I mean if ya think about it anything after the first would be a cheap knockoff or a fake made up to fool the masses into doing what current religious leaders want them to do and say "its all really there you must have faith in the invisible master in the sky" who has never come to say hi. But when the shit hits the fan "its gods will" or "people against the god you worship". But truely its a matter of common sense because there has to be an omnipotent being somewhere and apparently it has an awesome sense of humor proof is all around.Last edited by dads revenge; 01-15-2007, 02:34 PM.?find dads revenge

written how many thousands of years after the first people, as you claim, sprouted out of the ground.
I think you lost all credibility when you said that after one drink i'd be noticably different. The only TWO TIME TWLJ All-Star and TWLB All-Star who never played a game.
