personally i'd say the sex, drugs, n alcohol are just an added plus to the education for me. it's highschool except for the fact that you're finally getting your shit together. i'll be living at home so i don't have to suck dick to make rent, but it should be a fun AND an EDUCATIONAL time. i don't even know where the fuck i'm going yet.

I just realized it's not a survey, just some guy making a blanket statement, but the same holds true - of course someone's gonna say that. what's a kid gonna say? "No, bro, I totally do it to get my learn on." Kids will be kids and a kid is gonna say college is all about Sex and Alcohol, because that's what's cool nowadays. I would say that more or less, I do the same amount of tomfoolery in college as I did in high school - maybe a different ratio of alcohol to drugs, but overall, the same amount. Actually, with most of my closest friends off at other colleges, I'd say my carousing has decreased somewhat.

True, and I agree with you. I also think Gen/Panda were on the right track and that the freedom associated with college is the thing that attracts alot of people, but it's not the deciding factor on whether they'll stay or not.

I think attendance would stay about the same. A ton of people go to college because their parents want them to. Those tend to be the people that drop out due to getting distracted with things that are fun. If it weren't for drugs, alcohol and sex, I would have wanted to drop out, but I certainly wouldn't have failed out. If my life was that boring I'd probably have ended up doing some homework given that it wouldn't have really made a difference in my level of being entertained. Homework is slightly more boring than watching your eighth hour of tv consecutively, but not THAT much more boring. So, while some people might say "fuck it, I'm going to get a job and get drunk and laid" I think it would be counterbalanced by the fact that practically nobody going to school due to parental/societal pressures would drop out of school once they started.

I guess it's different over here cause no matter where you go you're still like a max 3 hour train ride away from home. Hell I still live at home. And I can say that I go to uni for the study (though I am getting so tired of studying and exams), but I want a good job later so I am gonna stick with it. Then again I don't drink alcohol and I am not really a casual sex kinda guy, I am more committed to a relationship. So I don't really look for easy girls.

i find it odd that in high school i could get tons of drugs and no booze and in college i can get tons of booze and no drugs

i mean, i still buy grass from pave's friends, and one of my best friend's cousin is a get-it-direct-from-mexico drug dealer, but as far as the people at LSUS, noone can ever score any drugs. i think it's because LSUS, though part of the LSU system, also is dirt cheap, so alot of old folks come here to get a degree... so it's probably 50/50 teenagers/adults... which is cool in some ways (the old dudes with tons of stories) and in others, not (the bitchy divorcee wife who complains about her 5 dying relatives, child support, her abusive mother, the cold, her need to quit smoking, the PMS, the shoes that were too expensiSHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP)

lol now thats a stereotype if ever i saw one, i honestly can say i do not know one girl who "loves" american sailors, now over here we are told that american chicks dig british guys cause of our accents.

as for the whole uni question, most people i know at uni are here to get a better job, or like me, because they diddnt have a clue what they wanted to do when they finished their A-levels, so figured 3 years at uni would help them figure it out (sadly so far i still do not know, and im a 3rd year)

the booze and shagging is more like a plus, but to be honest, the idea can be spread to anything, who would want to work an 8-5 job if they couldnt party and get laid ever? not to many people im guessing.

american chicks do dig british guys because of the accent, and trust me if your an american sailor going into port in australia...

If you're going to College to have sex and drink yourself stupid every night then you're wasting a lot of money that could be spent at home. I think people should want to go to get an education, there seems to be mislead reasons for people going to college.

Although I do not think it should be a requirement to get a lot of sex or drink a lot, there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting drunk once in awhile and having casual sex.

if you honestly want to do that so bad join the military, preferably the navy, not too hard to find an ez navy girl or pretty much any girl in europe, asia, or australia to get laid, a lot of foreign girls love american sailors, and drunken sailor basicly fits the image

I don't know about 95% - at least at my college. I'd say maybe 20% (tops, probably even less) would be more accurate. Everyone I know is really motivated and while they may not care very much about the material, they desperately want good grades and a good job. But then again, I do go to a school with a lot of very motivated people.

Personally, I drank and had sex in high school (like many kids, but apparently not all which I take for granted sometimes) so it's not a big deal. I'm not saying I was a huge party animal or anything like that - I like to think I had a pretty normal high school experience. Sure the pussy wasn't as easy but the drugs were easier to find (except alcohol of course because now everyone is of age, but it still wasn't difficult at all to get).

I went to college for 3 main reasons:

1. As a middle class kid it's kind of expected. In the program I was in for high school all 92 students went to college but 2 (who went into the military and probably will attend later).
2. To figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. Having a 8-5 job has always been the most depressing thought to me so I am still hoping to find something I thoroughly enjoy and won't tire of.
3. To actually learn something. I have always enjoyed learning, probably because I'm a nerd, but I always felt like that was my primary goal in college. I love both of my majors and even some of the electives I take. It wasn't always like that (as a freshman I became very apathetic mainly do to excessive drug use) but I kind of grew up.
