Since you don't seem to understand a lot of things it's possible that your mind could be changed if someone had the time and patience to do it.

I will just say a few things as is my duty as a liberal heathen.

Iran has a reasonably well functioning democracy relative to many other countries. Some of you who actually do understand the Iranian situation might think I am idiot for saying this but yes, really, they do. For example, a free press exists. It is oppressed, the government doesn't see it as free, doesn't want it to be free, and does try to censor it, but at the end of the day reporting does get done. We semi-frequently hear about political reporters (or a cartoonist not too long ago) getting arrested, right? So clearly someone is writing things, and people are reading it. So, maybe free press isn't the right word for it, would be more accurate to say a critical press. Which is infinitely more important anyway.

They also have a democratic election mechanism. Yes, the government disqualified the vast majority of dissident candidates but the fact that those candidates, and the election, exist in the first place is a hell of a lot better than many places.

Basically, the government in Iran can keep trying to oppress the people there but with those realities they are eventually going to fail.

Your interpretation of history regarding Germany (and Japan, was that the other country) is highly confused and uninformed. I don't understand how we built up Germany for one thing. Half of it was under Soviet control up until 10 years ago. Also they built themselves up pretty good without our help before the war started, now, didn't they? Germany's problem was never wealth creation. Well, ok, maybe it was for about 18 months between the first and second world wars.

Also, we all take a narrow view of history when discussing current events. What we have to say might not amount to a hill of beans in 25 years. Throughout history, I'm talking the last, oh, 1-2000 years or whatever, the greatest civilizations in the world were not english, white, or christian. It's very likely we might, soon, see the dawn of another 1000 era of technological and economic global domination (in the past global domination didn't exist but it does now) by races and creeds that are not our own (ie not north american/european). I'm talking, of course, about China, which accounts for a much larger percentage of the earths population than we do and might soon account for a similarly larger percentage of global wealth.

We only look so well off because we can control how the world works. How rich and fabulous will north america be in 25 years when the rest of the world flys their cars to work and we're all just a bunch of poorly educated NASCAR fans. Yikes!

Basically I think we should use our power now for good and not evil. We should create as equal and fair a global market as we can while we still have a say in it. Otherwise it will bite us in the ass later on when China and India pay us back for having them make our clothes for so many decades.

I absolutely agree with everything you just said, save for one fact. When China and India inevitably overtake America in terms of sheer economy, it wont mean an instant third world status.

Sure, America wont have nearly as much sway in the affairs of the world (especially when China catches up with us military technology wise), and we'll most likely not be able to bully everyone around, but it wont be a rapid descent into oblivion. We'll basically just be the new Great Britain....or the new Soviet Union depending on how stubbornly we take this step down.

Uk doesn't want war full stop, or at least on run by Americas. We can win wars on our own, but not with your "help". I think Americans have killed more UK troops than anyone else.....

And how is guantanmo bay acceptable. These people you have locked up should be tried and either jailed or released. I though America believed in the law. Obviously not, as you keep extraditing people from our country for crimes the "committed" in the UK. What amazes me is how much damage you are doing to your reputation in the UK, the one ally you've had in this war, and you are not helping at all to get our captured servicemen back.

I was merely looking for some entertainment, and seeing these kids like kolar who maybe take a class on politics or economics in school think they know everything about the world cracks me up. I didnt claim to know anything..I just love seeing everything twist into americas fault..even this which is clearly Iran trying to pick a fight. Sometimes when I read these responses I laugh to myself a little when I read the bullshit these people buy into. I was hoping to find such a story here since I now lack the time to find it myself.
