Until recently I used to volunteer at my local youth group but the kid's eventually got to me and I quit. It's the general consensus of those remaining as helpers that these children need love but now I'm a firm believer that they just need a good smack. These are the type of kids that hang around the streets all hours and it's plausible that their parents just can't be bothered with them and kick them out which isn't a good expression of love.... but there's also no discipline.

I half-agree with Zerzera, teenagers are teenagers, no matter what the time period.

Sometimes in the church or Christian literature (could even be a verse, I don't know :lol you get a quote about the youth of today, something along the lines of "The youth of today are unruly, undisciplined and don't respect their elders" [Huge paraphrase there] but the catch is that that was written millennia ago. Whatever the age we live in, kids will be kids.

Its a mixture of reasons, what zerzera said is complete bull, todays youth is undoubtedly less respectful than those that came before, obviously kids were not all 100% well behaved, but there were certainly less brats around.

Do you even know how many kids there on this planet? Your suburb isn't the universe, sorry.
And how many experience do you have? I mean, how many generations of kids did you watch while they grew up?
Do you remember the sixties, when all the youth was wasting their time on sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Or in the eighties, the time of punk, when kids dressed up in leather and beat up old people...

Read any book out of any era, society about social issues, and the youth will be described as rude and out of control, very unlike how the youth was when the authors were young.

Spoiling is spoiling, no matter what you would give a kid. Just because, to you, it's some of the latest technology it doesn't always mean it has the same effect on a kid.
My father bought us a PC when I was about 5. He bought us an MSX2, a Commodore64, a Nintendo, a VCR.
Perhaps I was privileged, and you didn't get things like that, but I don't really see the difference.
When horses were the new thing, I bet then the elder said to eachother;

I some cultures teenagers don't have asocial behavior, because they are incouraged to express their sexual behavior and rewarded.

my mother has been a teacher for over 30 years and two of my grandparents were teachers untill they retired, thats through the cane era, from their personal experiances they say that children have grown more and more disrespectful as time has passed, but of course they dont know anything about children compared to you?

I realise the world is a big place, and im not American so i dont live in a 'suburb', rather a city, and from my own personal experiance growing up, children have become far more unruly, and get away with far more than I would have, perhaps I am just lucky and am the only person through the past 70 years who had parents who knew how to dicipline their children?

I obvioulsy do not know all the facts, but if you ask any childcare professional today their opinion, the majority will admit that childrens behaviour has gotten worse, teenage pregnancy has increased, youth crime rates have increased. We live in a time where everything is so politcaly correct that proper discipline is hard, and we live in a time where exams in schools are getting progressively easier in a bid to counter children become progresively dummer, it may be different in the U.S but here in the U.K A-standard GCSE students (exams for 16-17 year olds), couldnt get C's in O-Levels (O-levels are the equivelent of GCSE's in the past, our parents time). There have been several t.v programes on it.

I would not consider the 60's as the sex & drugs era, as most of the sex & drugs label only happened in areas in the late 60's (68-69 unless you lived in certain cities). The term would be better fit for the 70's. Just my thoughts since I did live through that era and yes I am an old fossil on this forum. I can actually say that I saw Hendrix in concert with the Steve Miller Band & the Grateful Dead in 1970.

I have seen many changes in the manner of how children are different. Not all bad and not all good, but that goes for every generation. Frankly I think that it's not so much the children that are at fault as it is the retard parents of many of these kids.

I was giving you the opinion from those who have witnessed several generations of children grow up, if that brings nothing to the discussion then I hardly see how your opinions can matter at all either. Ask your mother her opinion.
