uhhh tom cruise can fuck off he's the last person I think of when I hear samurai

    Toshirō Mifune, motherfuckers
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

Hence the title: the Last Samurai.

The real deciding factor in the Knight vs Samurai battle would be their tactics. All else being equal, it would depend on what abilities each has.

If the Samurai has Blade Grasp, then he'd be able to evade the Knight's attacks. If he has extra katana in stock, he can also go for a Draw Out move like Heaven's Cloud which will also slow his opponent. He can also heal himself with Murasame if he needs to.

The Knight has its own abilities, and an Armor Break can turn the tide to his favour by lowering the Samurai's maximum HP.

I'd give it to the Samurai because his Draw Out abilities allow him to attack from a distance as opposed to the Knight who is only effective against an adjacent opponent.

Of course, this doesn't even take into account any secondary skills they have.

After reading that article, it looks like the knight really has an advantage over the realistic samurai. The Katana is short, the asian is short, the armor can be cut through by most knight weaponry and the knight out armors and out strengths the Samurai. I don't know why people assume asian = quicker, stealthier and expert swordsmanship; while knight = brute, slow, hack/slash... maybe people are watching too many movies.

Longswords don't weigh 20 pounds people.

Musashi the only samurai on my mind.

Samurai are very well trained swordsmen, and they're attacks are usually a one hit go duel whereas the knight is use to brawling it out (because of all that armor) till one gets tired enough to lose. So if the samurai doesn't get his target in a few hits, the duel will be all for not if the knight just gets one hit in.

its like a speed vs. strength sort of deal

No it isn't, anything can happen in a speed vs. strenght fight.

A knight would easily own a samurai, because the knight has better weaponry than the samurai.

Imagine a fight between the two of them. My favourite kind of knight with a light platemail and a longsword and a small convex-shaped shield (for mobility, instead of a gigant tower/kite shield) vs. a medium armored samurai with a sharp katana and fast swordsmanship.

The fight will end up with the samurai going for a gigant power swing, and the knight will block it with his shield. If the convex shield is made of wood, the katana will get stuck in it, letting the knight will get a clean hit on the samurai. If it's made of metal the katana hit will get deflected and the attack will bounce off, giving the knight some miliseconds to do an attack of opportunity/counter attack.

If the samurai can pierce the knight's armor at a vulnerable place, the win is for the samurai. But if the knight can get one powerful hit on the samurai's body-armor, the knight will win. It's not a question of which fighter-style is better, it's more a question which individual fighter is in better form the given day of the fight.

In other spec, what ship would be the samurai and what ship would be the knight?

eh, samurai swords are more for slashing and less for piercing

it's folded steel vs crap weaponry. The Samurai has the superior weaponry, and though he has worse armour, he is more maneuverable. And although the Knight is wearing superior armour, it's not superior enough to make up for the fact that the Samurai's Katana will slice and dice him, armour and all.

Did anyone read that link? The Samurai clearly doesn't have superior weaponry, armor or manuverability. Quit watching them movies and read a fact or two.

We actually came across that article earlier in our argument, and debated since that time. Though the author really doesn't come to any conclusions, the fact still remains that a knight in a full suit of armor is still less maneuverable than a samurai with very light protection. All it would take is a hard enough blow to incapacitate the knight and bring him to his knees. Once this has happened, the samurai would easily finish him off. The knight's armor is not impenetrable, and the samurai is simply too quick.
