I haven't found anything regarding actual death totals, but I did find references to two texts that studied mortality rates. I don't know if these will help as I can't access either from home right now, but if your school has permissions for accessing databases like JSTOR, you should be able to access the full documents.

Rogot E, Sorlie PD, Johnson NJ: Life expectancy by employment status, income and education in the National Longitudinal Mortality Study. Public Health Reports 1992;107:457-461.

John Mirowsky, Catherine E. Ross, Social Psychology Quarterly, Vol. 63, No. 2 (Jun., 2000), pp. 133-151.

Have you been using Google Scholar?

i dunno, i'm always seeing those hippie commercials, that are like, "last year alone, over X americans died to poverty". i'm writing a paper on Malthusian economics (the thesis is basically we should get rid of welfare so poor people die instead of doing other things like suck welfare money and murder people), and so of course when i need just a quick stat, i can't find it. none of the hippie commercials/advertisements anywhere, and google brings up alot of sort-of related, but not, results.

I'm writing a paper, and my google finesse is limited - can someone simply tell me how many people died to poverty in the last year (or in any year after 2000)?
