This dude is getting dragged out and put on his face by 5 cops and not one college student speaks up? Then I figured someone had to yell when they tasered him...But no one did.

Then I thought about if I would have spoken up. It's really sad how apathetic my generation is.

Not apathetic..it takes a lot of different question-answer thinking to move someone to do something "heroic," in this case saying/doing something to stop this man from being tased. It comes down to responsibility, not the lack of care. There have been many psychological studies about why people stand in place and do nothing to help someone, and it comes down to responsibility. First, people witness a crime taking place. Then they decide if they have to be the one to help--a crowd of people actually makes this worse because everyone assumes someone else will do something, whereas being alone a person is more inclined to help because they see it as their responsibility--if they continue to think they need to help, then they must ask themselves what to do, if they know what to do then they must figure out how to do it/if they can accomplish the task required to help, etc...until one person finally makes the decision to act. Usually people stop after the step "everyone else is here, I'm sure someone will do something." On the contrary, if one person DOES decide to do something it makes the odds much higher that other people will help too.

Things were also made much more complicated because in this situation, authority figures were present.

I think there's the difference from the famous NYC incident where there were several witnesses of a rape, but no one dialed 911 (as people watching from their window or what not assumed that some other individual would dial 911, taking responsibility off of themselves) and this, as in this instance their where the police engaging in the actions that some may consider inappropriate, there is little that could be done... Are they going to call the police? And if they physically try to stop them (or even walk over there and start yelling or defending this kid), they would with no doubt be charged with obstructing justice.
