I'm not familiar with those specific food franchises but I'm assuming they offer a higher quality service for a higher price. This is more than likely to be caused by expensive ingredients or greater quality preparation of food.

However, they may also limit the supply of their available workforce by imposing limitations (e.g. you have to be able to speak english and have 2 years working experience in the catering industry). McDonalds has very low restrictions because such restrictions will decrease the elasticity of labour: their will be less available people going for the same number of positions. Hence prices increase, hence a better quality service is provided, hence a different economy is created.

        Our views are not conflicting.
You said if you start enforcing policy then fast food prices would go up. My point was that fast food prices would not go up.

Unless there's a spanish copy of our constitution written on parchment/sheepskin/papyrus/hemp paper/whatever, under glass in a big building, people who work in this country should speak English.

They might, depending on whether the fast food companies decided to pass the increase an wages (which would be minimal) on to the consumer.

MetalHeadz's claim that service quality would increase with hiring restrictions is only true if people who don't speak english provide the lowest quality of service. I can think of at least one reason why this might not be the case. McDonalds (or any fast food company) asking for 2 years experience is an amusing proposition given the % of their workforce they would have to let go. Even asking for 3-6 months would kill labor supply for the industry.

I would agree if we are talking primarily about the service industry and primarily serve english speaking customers.

My point was that if they increased a significant amount, nobody would buy fast food because you could get better food from someone that speaks English for basically the same price. I hate these forums.

                  LOL

I get annoyed with that kind of thing too. Not just language barrier issues (because that is pretty uncomon to run into where I live for one thing) but just youngers who don't care (or are just sucky newbs at their jobs). I hate cheese, so I order with no cheese. With places like McDonalds and other "questionable joints" I end up with cheese almost half the time. It's insane! It's also really odd that I make sure that they hear me. I don't act like an asshole about it or anything (because then I would get cheese and someones saliva) but I always speak clearly and shit. They're just fucking retarded.

I also have a funny story about myself, my gf, mcdonads, and ordering a hamburger. But you losers don't get to hear it, my killer material is only for my ebuddies.

Anyway, I feel your pain. You go to these places with a specific thing in mind and it's annoying when you don't get it. I mean, if you're like me, a Big Mac with cheese on it just isn't what I want. I'd rather be fucked up the ass, to be frank. I actively dislike cheese. I would never pay money for that shit if I knew it was what I was getting.

Also the fries are really bad there almost constantly now. I remember I used to love the fries, hot, crispy, fries. Now it doesn't matter if I stop by at slow time or busy or whatever, I always get cold squishy fucking fries. I remember as a youngin I worked there and they constantly bitched at us about making sure the fries were what they called "fresh" (hot and crispy or whatever). I don't think they care anymore. Fuckers. I could seriously go for some good McDonalds fries but they don't exist anymore.

Jesus christ, you got me all worked up now. GAHHH!

Non-English speakers get those jobs because native English speakers are unwilling or less qualified to get those jobs. If English speakers really wanted or were qualified (i.e. have arms, not retarded) they would be hired over the non-English speakers.

McDonald's isn't THAT stupid. The point is, their margins and the margins of many low-cost industries like the fast food industry is extremely low already. They can only afford to pay so much. With the amount of money they pay, they can only attract certain people to work those jobs.

So yes, if there were restrictions, then they would certainly have to raise wages, and then food would certainly cost more. And then Applebees would have to raise their wages even more for even better service and their prices would rise too.

The net effect of immigrants is to have an entire group of relatively smart and capable people who are willing to do crappy jobs because for them doing a crappy job and making a crappy wage is still better than what they had before. This of course lowers prices and lets everyone enjoy a higher standard of living from those to have to pay less for things, to the immigrants who now have a life better than what they had at home.

You're clearly not familiar with basic economic theory then.

                            • Mcdonalds is a starter job, it's meant for people to get experience and get the fuck out, or if you choose to put up with the shit maybe become an assistant manager or manager and make $15-20 an hour. Either way, it's bullshit working for them and people who work there get too much shit, when I go to Mcdonalds I know my sandwich will always look like shit and I know the person who made it did a terrible job putting it together, but then again I've worked at Mcdonalds and made 6 bucks an hour so I know how it feels.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did
