Bleh. I went to university the last 4 years in a small town, so everyone at the local fast food joints all spoke English as a first language. There was 'diversity' in the form of me being Chinese but very few people percentage-wise who couldn't speak perfect english. But yes I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek.

This is the opposite of Toronto, where basically the level of English at McDonalds is highly varied as we are the most multicultural city in the world.

Appeal! Amsterdam has the most in year 2007 with 177 different nationalities.

I speak english 50% of the time when I'm town and I don't see the problem with it. In fact, I think everyone in Europe should talk english and spanish. Learn it as a child. It only takes 1 generation loop to change (though luck for us) and one huge intergration problem is solved.
Another advantage: you don't have the order problem at Mc D

The people who do speak my language are usually too retarded to get a complicated order right anyway. Always fun to guess from the price what they think you had ordered.

Also, you can probably just say it to the cashier in a more simple way so she would understand, even with limited english. The word "substitute" doesn't help in these cases.

Likewise, they could train their employees to learn a little bit of English as well, it would be both a great service to their employees in addition to improving their customer service. It must be absolutely awful to work at McDonald's without being able to speak the language well, I'm sure these employees aren't thinking "fuck this country, I'm not speaking THEIR language" they just clearly don't have the means to learn English. It's bullshit for companies like McDonald's to advertise as if they are doing these people some great service by offering them such a crappy job, then throwing them into the fire in a situation where they need to know English without providing any training in the subject.
Shouldn't be McDonald's responsibility to train people in the USA to speak English. Should be required before they're even let in the country. I'm sorry, but if I planned to VISIT another country, I'd at least get a translation dictionary. If I planned on MOVING to a country and living and working there? I'd do my best to learn the fuckin language the native people speak. And by learn, I don't mean know how to say "hello" and "may i take your order?"

That's sooo fucking easy to claim.

First imagine what your country would be like that you run from it to another country. Try to imagine the trip, the stress and the time it takes before you get a refugee status in a country. Then imagine what it will be like when they toss all your diplomas into the garbage can (if you have any diplomas), because they either don't except the diplomas of your country or can't verify their validity.
Yes, I bet you will be very motivated to speak gibberish within a year. It would be possible if you still have a bank account full of money to burn... but that's not very likely for economical refugees...

Just be glad that there's people who are willing to serve food in the McDonalds, I don't see you do it with the education you had.

I already have a basic understanding of Spanish, because my country found it necessary to make up for their lack of border control. As for everything else you said, tough shit. If you're coming to my country, you're speaking my language. How is it my fault or responsibility in anyway shape or form for the status of these peoples' countries? It isn't, why should I go out of my way to help them? Isn't that what we're doing in Iraq right now? Breaking up a horrid regime that mercilessly abused it's people? And what do we get called? "Bullies"? We think we're the "Worlds' Police"? Would it have been better if instead of invading, we had invited these people to our country and learned their language? Put them into McD so they could serve our food, but only serve it to us if we spoke THEIR language?

EDIT: I worked in a fast food restaurant when I was younger. The jobs provided by fast food places aren't intended for illegal aliens. They're intended as a means of providing the younger generation with work experience and a stepping stone into the working world.

                      Appearantly not?

There is a difference in doing your best to speak it and actually speaking it. That's contradicting to your first statement, because you are allowed to learn it, but others have to be fully adapted. Learning a language actually takes alot of time, and is nearly impossible to learn if you're not surrounded by it.

Basicly, in short, try to be a bit more understanding. Commen sence please. Of course she wants to speak english. What you're doing is blaiming a blind guy for bumping into you.

And Zerz, life isn't black and white. Not every immigrant is a refugee. If you aren't an regugee, that doesn't imply you have a bank account full of money.... there is a middle way. But I'm sure you were just trying to give examples to our nationalist screamo.

LOL, come on now, do I need comment?
And basically we are throwing trash on the floor so colored people have a chance to gain work experience in the cleaning sector eh?

                        THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!

Its called a market economy, fast food places "aren't there as a place for teens to work" and people don't buy burgers because they like to support these jobs, they are there because there is a demand for fast food. You make it sound like a communistic system.

But seriously now, you have a point, all the other people have a point: if you go to a different country you should learn the language, easy as that. The fact you don't do it fluent cannot be held against you, you should try as best you can. Maybe they are doing just that, and if it's not good enough their employer should do something about it.

Does it matter why the person is poor at English? Does it matter where the person is from? Does it matter why the person is working in such a low-end job? It doesn't! The only thing that matters is that you need to do you job in a sufficient way.

Look at it this way: If someone American suffered a stroke, and lost most of their communication skills, but in every other way they were fine. Should they still be able to work at McD?

No. If an american suffered from a stroke, he should law sue his doctor and claim 3 million....

Yes I see now that the term refugee is too strong a term and I should have used the word immigrant.
And there are loads of refugees with a fat bank account, I know two families like this. But you don't see them working in the McDonalds either.

And Screamo, you are pretty damn ignorant and full of contradictions.

So you detest having to learn Spanish? Said you learned Spanish because you had to learn it in school? So many people in your country actually speak Spanish, but you would rather not learn Spanish even when it's the second language in your country?
You had the means to learn Spanish in school, you had no real other obligations than learning the subjects you had in school, yet you rather wouldn't have.
On the other hand you claim to have no trouble at all in having to learn another language when you'd plan to move to another country.

But your whole posts are full of ignorant and nationalist statements that make no sense. Uneducated immigrants are valuable forces for your economy, but if you'd rather let your school suffer so that you can have the honor of working in the McDonalds over these immigrants -during school hours-, be my guest.
                              Little spoiled ignorant fuck.
