He bought me $850 half carat diamond earrings, among other things. I think he overdid it a bit, and he refused to return them. It was pretty sweet though... he left me a trail of rose petals to where a dozen roses and the earrings were waiting. ^-^

$850 diamond earing's puts my $60 on sale single diamond necklace to shame, but realistically no one needs $850 diamonds. It's a bad move to give them and a bad move to accept them, imagine if you break up, what then? I know it's hard but I'd return those and make sure his bank balance doesn't say 'insufficient funds'. If he's in college it's an even worse move considering if he's anything like me he has loans, and lots of them. Fight your personal want for them and do what's right for him and take them back.

I thought the rule of thumb was some % of your monthly salary. Something like 50% of your monthly salary perhaps? At least in the US I think that's the general rule of thumb.

Yea he's in college and going to be in med school so he's got a crazy amount of loans right now. Garands are fun, and can get real expensive real fast if you get em on the open market, because of the nostalgia, collectibility, and the fact that it really is an amazing rifle.

What you and your dad ought to try to do is get one through the CMP. The NRA and Gubment has this thing called the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Basically you join the program and agree to enter 2 localized shooting competitions with like 2 years? And they'll break out and sell you a Garand from the Gubment's WWII Armories (there are many thousands still, even after all these years). I believe last time I looked the Garands were like 500-900 bucks through this program.

that sucks, sometimes love makes you do really stupid things. I'm not innocent, I've showered my ex's in gifts, it's just come back to hit me in the balls. I'm 20 now and I'm finally able to of control myself when spending money on other people, sometimes at least. I guess college was a slap in the face.
