I agree with RATTY.... on Berserk. I saw it quite a few years ago and it kept me up every morning until 4 AM for about a week when i was in high school. Defenately a must-see. I rented it from Blockbuster, so it's pretty easy to find.

Also, next anime to be recommended is Elfen Lied (pronounced Elfen Leed). It's about an android human girl that has imaginary "vectors" that come out of her body and kill people. She loses her memory at one point I believe and discovers her powers once again, after running away from the island she was being held at by scientists. They also are hunting her down in the movie, getting her back.
Gore: 8 out of 10.
Action: 8 out of 10.
Drama: 9 out of 10.
Definately something to keep you popping in the next disc :P also, its a short series so i think it was like 20 episodes or something?

Watchable. I liked Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop ... and not much else when it comes to anime. Maybe you will like it.

Berserk. 25 episodes, highly recommended no matter who you are. It's quite bloody and violent and very entertaining, even though the anime isn't even close to the manga. The main character is a mercenary who runs around with a gigant sword ala Cloud. He isn't the typical demi god who goes super saiyan and owns people like in many series, he gets owned a lot during the series, pretty amusing.
