It is important to note that not all STDs are visible externally on the genitalia. Furthermore, even those that are visible may not always be visible - but even when they aren't visible you can still pick 'em up.

There is really no way to know for sure whether someone is clean or not, so the safest bet (unless you like the idea of possibly getting a potentially chronic STD that will wreak nine kinds of hell in your life and lifestyle), abstinence aside, is to use a female condom. Failing that the next best thing is to use a (male) condom.
