Thats the kicker right there cops. You pointed it out for everyone. They were not US citizens. They were people from another country, who entered the USA illegally. They also broke into a citizens house. I don't see how you are saying you would just let illegal immigrants, who the country has no records of because they are illegal, just walk away with yours or your neighbors personal possessions. I do think you are correct in your assessment that race had something to do with it though. If they were white Americans, he probably would not have shot them. But that is life, and life is not fair.

just because they shouldn't have been there doesn't mean they deserved to die. You sound like Bill O'Reily right now, and honestly I'm not going to get into a debate of whether taking a person's life regardless if they aren't supposed to be there or not is justified, or more justified. No im making the point that they shouldnt have been there, and they got what came to them, you dont go to texas without knowing they like to kill people. Its as common knowledge as americans use alot of gas. They should have know their actions had a consequence. If someone were trying to rob your house, you would hope and pray for a neighbor like that. And if you dont, then you wont have long to think about it.

I don't know what's left to debate, justice wasn't served. The media and the general public has made its case that this man acted within reason, I formally deny that claim. I believe the murders were premeditated, racially driven, and that this sets a standard that this type of behavior is acceptable

It also makes an individual question who exactly his neighbor could be, if I was a lawyer defending someone of the same crime I'd work the angle that under law his neighbor was being robbed and he had all right to use excessive force, even though his neighbor could be 5-10 blocks away.

Final thoughts:

It is evident that racism is still a huge issue in the south. I think it's common nature that when I insult your home you defend it, who the fuck am I to insult your home but when it's too your advantage admitting that your country is fucked up and that racism is a huge issue then you'll gladly play that hand when it is to your advantage. I think the type of honesty I'm looking for doesn't exist, people refuse to be overly critical of their home land. More so a person thinks, loves, breathes no differently than you or I. Regardless that these individuals sought to do harm they are still human, and premeditated murder does not fall under the text book definition of self defense. This case slipped through the cracks of the legal system, it had a lot to do with who the men were and what they were doing. If this was about two drunken Americans breaking into someone's garage this man would never see the light of day.

Being a citizen in a country does not give you any more rights than any individual, we are all protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We are all human, anything after that is secondary. Setting a standard of acceptable murder is wrong, murder is murder, this was murder not self defense. He planned on killing those two, he was looking for blood. Sometimes people act out in regards to how they were treated, I'm not excusing their behavior but at the same time you can't tell me that they were ever treated like human beings.

when you treat a certain group of people like wild animals, don't be surprised when they play the part. You make your bed, and you've got to sleep in it.

edit: I sympathize with the good natured people in the south, but these issues are real and they are something that tends to get looked past. I think there is good and bad in every country, state, province, city, town, etc.

The Texas state law is determined by the consensus vote of the citizens of Texas. The law is their definition, determined by the populace, of what they believe to be correct. In their wacky worldview, it's okay to shoot someone who is trespassing on your lawn or your neighbor's lawn. These young men put themselves into a situation where they were on the wrong side of said law. Therefore, the people of Texas who represent their own views decided that the law decided he was to go free. It's a direct translation of the will of the Texas government. It's the uglier side of having seperate self-determining bodies.

Morally and ethically I don't agree with his actions, but in court his rights under state law were upheld. If the people of Texas view this decision and are outraged then they have the power to vote in favor of change. It sucks for the two young men but they aren't exactly innocent in these circumstances.

edit: And Cops, just to be clear, I find his actions just as morally unjust as you, but he's within the law determined by the general consensus. I now know for sure not to break into anything while in Texas.

edit: question: is it legal for people in texas to kill people who just enters their area (lawn or w/e) w/o permission or do they have to do something "bad" first (like looking for food in the garbage can, that thing is seriously killingworthy)
