Dont know if anyone said all natural substances are harmless.. I was merily being critical of Western Medicine and the way that alot of pharmaceuticals benefit a specific issue, whilst creating many other problems.
In terms of the common cold/flu.. It is rediculous to dose yourself with these unnatural compounds just to relieve the symptoms or reduce the duration.. Aswell as ultimately being detrimental to the immune system.. but who needs an immune system when you got a pharmacy full of drugs eh?sigpic

And yes, I was the one who made the claim GHB isn't more dangerous than alcohol when used responsibly, which Lancet apparently shares with me still:

Wow.. Lancet is fucked up... Is obviously calculated by number of reported cases and doesnt consider the rates of usage.. Very irresponsible of them.
I mean wtf, they claim heroin is twice as harmful as amphetamines?? LMAO and cannabis is more harmful than ghb or alkyl nitrates.. what a fucking joke.
and you actually posted that shyte. <_<sigpic

Figure 1. Mean harm scores for 20 substancesClassification under the Misuse of Drugs Act, where appropriate, is shown by the colour of each bar.
Also from the Lancet btw. If you are interested in reading the entire story I could mail you the pdf.

If you have a university IP you should be able to get it yourself. Harm, by the way, includes more than physical damage that would require hospitalization, it could also include long term mental problems such as getting out of touch with life, memory problems etc. Interestingly, alcohol rates really high in this one too =)"... I'm pretty sure cannabis is the only substance listed taht hasnt caused any overdose related deaths... oh but long-term heavy users may have some STML or mild depression.. Hardly comparible to the huge amount of ecstasy users who are spending their days in psyche wards trying to hide from their shadow... You can fry your brain in less than 2 years of heavy ecstasy use. And even moderate users can experience severe depression from the shit it does to your head.
Edit: Appears the assessment is in relation to drug classifications.. which is a very political matter.. now I understand why the mostly illegal amphetamine is claimed to be considerably more harmful than the very similair, yet legal, Methylphenidate... :greedy:sigpic

AFAIK the classification is just shown to prove the current drug classification is a bit skewed (and, as you said, political). The harm rates are assessed unbiased from it. And, as I mentioned before, harm isn't related to overdosing per sé. I suggest you reading such articles first before claiming they are crap.
Another thing is that most LSD users won't use LSD daily, while there are a lot of alcohol users or weed users that use multiple times a day, therefor having a higher potential for harm; it's all factored in. Extacy is also not a drug most would use daily for example, otherwise it would have a lot higher potential for sure."... I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep." -R. Frost

The reason people use alcohol/weed more often is because they can without serious consequences..
A person can drink alcohol/smoke weed everyday for many years, and still maintain a semi-functional life.
If a person was to use ecstasy/GHB/LSD/Alkyl nitrates everyday, more than likely they would either realise that reality was departing them, and stop, or they would end up in a hospital.
Even the long-term effects of using alcohol/weed everyday would be less than using teh others once a week... except maybe LSD.
hmm sorry i am tired and started to ramble.. I guess what we are both saying is that the figures are based on the collective harm caused by these drugs.. It has no significance in relation to individual use... Like saying "oh tobacco killed more people than amphetamines last year so I am going to give up smoking and start tweeking everyday"Last edited by TagMor; 08-11-2008, 04:09 AM.sigpic
