    Back to the real stuff!

Anybody (besides gran : D ) think that there's a good chance that maybe they weren't taught the whole truth during school?
I actually did read the thread and I still think it's a stupid topic. Gran gave you the obvious answer. Now all you're doing is stirring shit up for no good reason. Everybody knows that the American school system is a pile of shit.

And I wasn't taking a cheapshot at you in the beginning, if anyone else made the same thread, they too would be a taint-sniffing, cock-throbbing retard. So no hard feelings.

look paradise, I understand a lot of people don't like you on this forums, and you're probably thinking to yourself, who cares?

I saw the point in your thread, and it's a shame, I know. It really is.

But the world is fucked up, and you realizing some truth is a good thing, appreciate that and don't let anyone tell you else otherwise.

Don't fight back (This doesn't mean roll over every time FYI), just roll with the punches, and you will find posting on these forums will be less hostile and more posts that contribute rather than attacking your character.

Same idea works in real life as well.

WEll to give you a legitimate answer,

it's been pretty obivious there are at least two sides to the modern world, the West, and the East. After the fall of Rome and the division of the catholic church, a lot of the "common" knowldege of the day was lost in the west, and preserved in the east. It was later "rediscovered" by westerners and recorded in their history. The east already had the knowlege, but may not have even recorded "who" discovered it, because it's 1000 yrs old at this point.

Fast forward to say 15 yrs ago.

With no internet, the only way to trade information like "who discovered inertia" is by reading books. All the books you have access to in the western world are physically here in libraries and such. To compile a text book on history (which is more the relevant topic, since in physics it really doesn't matter who discovered what, as long as you know what is), you research contemporary books (in english no less) and don't bother finding if someone may have already discovered it 500 yrs before in another part of the world. It's simply not possible for the text book people to go reading old ass manualscripts from all over the world.

            Fast forward to today.

The internet is everywhere, so people in all countries and all languages can share information easily. Someone who previously had no way of knowing that whoever you're talking about existed now does. however, it's kinda irrelevant who discovered what outside of a history major, so books like a physics book are just going to be carbon copies of previous additions, with a few edits. You're going to have to find a new book on the history of physics to find relevant information like the stuff you're talking about. Or you can use the internet, which may take some initiative, but then again when you're doing research for projects (why else would you need to know, again) you do this already. There isn't a need to teach this anyway, let alone teach "children" topics like this.

Give it time. It's not just racial prejudices, it's globalization and dissemination of information.

did anyone see the first emperor of china in history channel?

Pretty interesting because they invented shit way before europe did, but he burned all the text because he was paranoid skitzo and felt that the old history of their land was imposing dis-allegiance in his new empire.

There are no two sides to a 1-dimensional idea. The fact is like this:

                  - Al-Jazri invented and described the crankshaft 1000 years before it was implemented in everyday use. Yet, most have never heard of him.

                  - Averroes defined and explained force, both textually and mathematically, Several centuries, let me repeat, centuries, before Newton, he described the concept of a rebound effect of actions to reactions, once again many many centuries before Newton, yet again, most have never heard of him.

                  - Avicenna, laid the grown work for modern anti-Aristotle philosophy, he is the father of secular thought, Arabs like him laid the grown work for todays mathematics, they fucking invented numbers. Yet most don't know this. The Arabs created Algebra. It was fucking al-gabr. YET! I have never seen an arab in my math text book. Ever.

And im sure most will want to know this, al-kuhul guess what that is.

What relevance does this have? None. Textbooks don't describe any of the information you're talking about. I've graduated with a BS in civil engineering and I've never had to learn, or was taught any of the things you're talking about. They're not common knowledge, and wouldn't be taught outside of a history oriented physics class. I'm not saying they weren't important people, but that there's plenty of information that isn't taught in schools, because it doesn't need to be.

I learned algebra in 7th grade, in math class. Where did in my MATH textbook is the section on the history of algebra? Nowhere, because it's not necessary to know that someone figured it out 1500 yrs ago, only to know how to apply it. The same thing goes with physics. The only reason you know Newton is because the damn law's named after him. Who is the person that i should "think" invented the crankshaft? It's not relevant, only that you know how these things work, and how to apply them to real life.

But I digress. I stated why we aren't taught these things based on geography and language barriers. I also stated why you even know that it wasn't taught in the first place, the internet. The dissemination of knowledge is key to this discussion, because there was no way for what you're asking to be possible. It's now a concious decision to put down arabs, it's simpy the manifestation of the two separte civilizations rising independent of each other, and only in the last couple decades coming back together. And in the past few years, closer knowledge wise than they've ever been.

You should be happy that you can look on wikipedia and learn about these people, not complaining that they weren't a part of your cirruculum.

Edit: Adios money, it would do you better to show how many ppl in ohio show that type of ignorance instead of falling TO THAT LEVEL.

speaking on behalf of middle easterners that isn't Arab, I can honestly tell you that:

The arabs are a bunch of lying sacks of shit that stole their glory and took credit that other countries invented. Only because of their ties with the west has allowed them to be honored with shit they didn't do.

I'm assuming you just read up on these guys in school or something not long ago. Either way, why make a post on just these two individuals? There are many great philosophers and artists who don't get named that often or are just apparently overlooked by people. I can see where you were going with this thread though and to answer your question, I don't know why. They seem like two important figures within history, so you'd think they'd have more place in history books. Go figure.
