There are many great philosophers and artists who don't get named that often or are just apparently overlooked by people. I can see where you were going with this thread though and to answer your question, I don't know why. They seem like two important figures within history, so you'd think they'd have more place in history books. Go figure.

As for your question why some contributors (if not inventors) do not get credit, I'll give a quote from a famous scientist: "I stand on the shoulder of giants". The person who gets famous for discoveries is usually the one that manages to get the new dogmas accepted, not per sé who originally contributed most to them.

I also hope Princeton and Yale do not cost 35k+ a year in tuition for you =), I've visited both and was quite impressed with the facilities and especially the campus (wouldn't know about biochem tho, I just visited the organic chemistry buildings), but I think you could get more bang for your buck abroad.
