Of course it makes sense, she knows what it's like. She feels the pain. But she doesn't have time for her daughter because she's caring for the people. She's an example of why people need to take time to hold their children under the thumb.

      EDIT:

why do you post about her daughter being pregnant and then in the next sentence make some rumor spread about getting her brother kicked off the force? Libs need lessons in smearing, they obviously suck

They also ran the "Obama bin Biden" thing--to tell the honest truth, (the fair and balanced truth, you might say), Fox has started dishing up steaming hot piles of Weekly World News trash. Some might say they've always done so, but it's recently become increasingly more transparent.

Would you agree that he was being hypocritical? I wouldn't. People change. I wouldn't want Obama to stray from a subject like that just because he enjoyed the occasional joint with his boys. And lets be real here - a politician wouldn't run strictly on a "drug policy" campaign anyway and you know that. The same as the republicans don't run strictly on a "high moral ground" campaign. Besides, by your thinking, if the conservatives are supposed to solely represent "high morals" and "family values" then...the...liberals...? Like I said, you're using it as a blasting point like so many others are, and while I understand (good luck finding a staunch republican on any college campus - you might as well search for an albino midget), I also find it silly/naive. Neither side is squeaky clean - its American politics for Christ sake.

Besides, if we're being picky she isn't hypocritical on the pro-life or the anti-contraceptive front because obviously the baby isn't going to get aborted and clearly her daughter didn't use a contraceptive. All I'm saying is that to judge the entire republican party because a high profile member had a reckless teenage daughter is fairly ridiculous. I came from a family that I like to believe did a pretty good job of teaching me high morals and I've done more than my share of reckless, stupid shit that would make my parents look like irresponsible shitheads if I had been caught (and in some cases, I was). It's called being young. Do you think your family did a good job teaching you? I'd be willing to bet that overall, sure they did - you seem fairly well adjusted - but consider that next time you're tripping on shrooms and raw dogging some girl on their couch.

Obama said it himself: families should be off-limits.

And Conc: Fox news? Its Fox "News", dude. Fox "News".

Yeah, laugh, who didn't get pregnant at 17? Here at the Netherlands we prefer to marry out our daughters at 13.

The point I'm trying to make is that young people tend to be reckless.

Judging from your awesome use of sarcasm, though, I'm guessing teen pregnancy is a little less prevalent in Holland than here, huh?

I don't really mind. We got 'breezersletjes', young girls that trade sex for goods like breezers, cigs, mac food.
Don't think you should downplay teen pregnancies just because her mother is running for VP though.

Apparantly Holland is almost on the bottom.. It's actually so low, that it's a bit embarrasing..

ps. Zerz, i've never seen any statistics on how many teenage girls are actually 'breezersletjes', i'm guessing it's very low.. but yeah.. in holland politicians and journalists struggle to make their job seem important..

Again Zerz, you're missing my point. You are taking one solitary thing from all of my posts and taking it out of context.

I'm not (purposely) trying to downplay teen pregnancy, all I'm saying that to blast the entire McCain campaign by her young daughter's mistake seems a little blown out of proportion. Is it going to make news? Of course. Is it going to sting them from a publicity standpoint due to it contrasting from their conservative views? Of course.

What jerome said in this other election thread sums it up well for me:

I could give a couple of examples, but I'll go with Big Willy Styles: Bill Clinton was a womanizer and blatantly lied about getting blown in the oval office by interns (in addition to the accusations of countless women that claimed he had an affair with them). Is that morally sound? No. By our current moral standards, does that make him a good person? Not so much. Was he still a skilled politician that helped the American economy flourish during his presidency? Sure. All of his personal/family issues aside, most people would say he was a (overall) solid president.
