Ok, so here's my deal. I have been accepted into a student internship with the US Department Of State, and I thought I would include my favorite group of internet rejects to assist me in making an informed decision on the matter. I only have to do 3 1/2 more years to receive my graduate (masters) degree in Foreign Policy, and I've been given the option to choose between several US Embassies and Consulates located worldwide, but local language proficiency is going to be required regardless of where I go.
Basically what I'd like to achieve out of this thread would be...based on individual experiences, which languages would be worth learning, and what would be some of the best places in the world to experience? As of right now, based on my current knowledge of languages and the current vacancies being offered to me, I can only choose between Perth, Australia, Abu Dhabi UAE, and Kabul Afghanistan. With countries like Austria, Rwanda, Canada (french), and the Red Republic (and a couple others) I'd feel like I sold myself short if I didn't at least research other peoples experiences in any of those locales.
Any constructive opinions are welcome, and I apologize if I was not very thorough, I'm not all there right now.
