Don't even start with Dumas. I had to read coun de monte crisco in French.

By the way, I like your choice of authors, especially Jared Diamond.

And Reaver, another book I'd suggest: A Portrait of a Young Artist by James Joyce
1984 is a high school read
Ender's Game is a high school read
The Great Gatsby is a high school read
Animal Farm is a high school read

These books among many others are high school literature, however they are still fantastic books that I regard to be some of the most influential books I've ever read.

I think Guns, Germs and Steel is an informative read, but should only be on the most nerdiest 'fav book' lists... Its more like reading a documentary than something you can get emotionally involved in.

        They are all great books.

My favourite of all-time would either be:
Mobey Dick by Herman Melville, or
The Death of My Brother Abel by Gregor Von Rezzori

        Recent reads of note:
The Gods of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Nova Express by William S. Burroughs
The ScrewTape Letters by C.S Lewis
The Damage Done by Warren Fellows
Letters to My Israeli Sons by Lynne Reid Banks

I liked kim's recommendation of The Life of Pi by Yann Martel.. its an excellent read.

I highly recommend The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, its definitely the best book I've read in the past couple of years.

I know this might not be the most breathtaking pieces of literature you'll ever read, but I highly recommend Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis and Larry Sloman.

The book in itself is a wonderful story about a kid who wanted to play music, and experienced everything from falling in love countless time to almost killing himself on heroine. If you're a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers or just someone who can appreciate a great story this book is a definite read.

i like vonnegut, slaughterhouse v n cats cradle n shit. i also like palahniuk, if you haven't seen the movie i'd say read fight club because it's a pretty close adaptation. choke is also a very good book by palahniuk although the movie sucked. i'm gonna read rant soon also. uh, the average american male (i can't remember the author) was pretty hilarious, but it might not be your thing. if you come across it maybe flip through it and you should know after you're done reading the first page. right now i'm reading the adventures of kavalier and clay by chabon, it's pretty great. it's about comics. if you're into comics and haven't read watchmen yet maybe check that out too, it's pretty good.

                    hoped that helped.
