As far as your concerns related to video games, I was under the impression that video games were actually one of the few industries that were doing half-decent during this economic shit storm. Anyways, I can't give a critical analysis of the game because I'm running a Geforce 5500, and even with low settings it feels like I'm flying a jumbo jet. Once I get my new video card in a day or two, just bought a GeForce 9800 GTX+ I should be up and running. At which point I'll give my opinion fairly about this game. However, from everything I've read and seen the game looks alright.

DarkFall hasn't done anything special here, players are still grinding and still cheating there way around the time vs reward system ALL MMO's seem to put into place.
I've seen a shit load of old UO players give this game a shot, and they actually seem to like it. Even though my interaction with the game has been limited due to shitty hardware, I have been able to talk to several players in game who are old UO players.

I'm not saying this game is amazing or awesome, what I am saying is that it's a step backwards to when MMORPGS were halfway decent. Dark Fall has really stuck to the fundamentals of what made games like UO fun, so I won't cast any stones based on the fact that this game will never be as big as WoW. I actually don't want it too either, part of the fun thing about UO was that there were a lot more old faces then new ones. I think the game will have tremendous flaws and issues (don't all games?) but if the game is constantly working to solve them then I have absolutely no problem sticking around for the long haul. In my personal opinion WoW isn't fun unless you're in a decent guild with people who are around your same level. Plus, for someone who found Questing tedious as fuck the game was an ultimate failure.

Again, I'll reitterate 50% of a market share, when you size up how many MMO's are out there, they're small fish in a very big pond. This isn't me saying WoW's the only option simply that your casual kid, joe blogs casual gamers going to levitate to WoW and not DarkFall, Age of Conan or DC Universe, The facts are in the figures.

As far as your concerns related to video games, I was under the impression that video games were actually one of the few industries that were doing half-decent during this economic shit storm.
Video games are as more people stay in they're more wiling to dunk a few hundred on a console and fourty-sixty on a game. MMO's on the other hand? They're not exactly booming are they? Virtual Assets and Play for Perks is continuing to grow.. Subscription models aren't. More and more players begrudge playing X amount for the install and then 19.99 per month to queue four hours to get on a server.

Its this sort of Apathy thats a major problem with the gaming market, tremendous flaws are to be expected.. like I said, it really does seem that aventurine is up against the wall..

The launch was hilarous, Sync issues meant that loot drops, combat AI and MOB pop-up was all out of wack, which lead to a number of newly formed clans looting the shit out of passive high-level mobs. Game balance was skewed from day one.

Corrupt player files, there indefinite queue bug.. like I said earlier they rushed it and its a sign that the dev teams hand was forced.. after all what two months after 8 years?

Time will tell. Perhaps four years down the line, You'll be able to tell me you told me so. But I doubt it.

City of Heroes has the best business model and actually does the MMO thing right, and does it right with the crappiest fucking engine there is.

I can't see how Darkfall can survive though, the animation is horrible. And the zergling alliances are destroying the game.

                      I just recently bought;

XFX Motherboard with on-board geforce 8200 video card
AMD Phenom Quad Core 9500 (CPU)
4 Gigs of SLI Nvidia RAM

The game runs pretty smooth on the video card, I haven't gotten my 9800 GTX+ yet but I assume the game will look a hell of a lot better than it does now.

I've been able to play a bit today and my first impressions are mixed, it's ridiculously hard to move out of the spawning area and actually kill something. The goblins are overwhelmingly more powerful than me and unless I gank them I'm no match for them. That said I have been able to explore a bit and found a dead body with a complete set of armor and 200 arrows, however I died before I could make it back to town. The game is a lot of about figuring it out for yourself, I'm having some trouble but I'm learning more about the game as I play. I'm not sure it's an amazing game yet, I'd like to get XOG to guild me and help me out a bit then I'll see how the game is. I haven't been able to do anything 'cool' yet, so I'm not ready to throw this game away without exploring more. I'll compare notes with Kolar tonight and see what he thinks about the game, hopefully he's been able to learn a few things.

not requiring a subscription doesn't make a game any less massive, multiplayer, or online

The game's fun, the only thing that sucks is the PVP system is like anarchy in this game. I know it might piss the hardcore players off, but it needs to be balanced better.

I'm working on creating a better character and upping my crafting skills, hopefully a good guild aka XOG's takes me in and I can group more, train more, and get help from better players. I think I've seen enough of this game to say it's actually not bad, there's definitely no training wheels but it's still a hell of a lot of fun.
