My question is VERY simple: Why can't they pay for their own expenses? Our Royal Family has a wealth of 2.5 billion euros, I'm sure the other Royal Families aren't much worse off. Why on earth do we need to spend 100 million euro TAXmoney on their expensive way of living when they have ALL that cash? Let them pay it themselves? What would be wrong with that? And it has NOTHING to do with if there's a million people who enjoy having them or not.

- I do not care if the Royal Family continues to exist in their ceremonial role or not. If people enjoy it, sure let them be.
- I care that their expensive lifestyle is paid with TAX money, and we have NO transparency towards where these millions of euros are going either. Also they're among the top 5 richest families in Holland, so they can pay it themselves EASILY.

About the too young part: Unless you're older than 60 you can be considered to be too young. The old generations appreciates this stuff much than any of us does, and they aren't defending their views on internet forums either. Maybe we'll appreciate stuff like this when we get old too.

You couldn't be more wrong. Your 'you've to be older than 60 to understand' is a ridiculous argument. Just because they're of an older generation (it's funny how you make it sounds like it's knowledge that'll come with age) they know what's best? With your logic decisions on changes in society should always be made by the elderly. That makes you even more conservative than the pope. Please realize how wrong you are.
And I'm not even talking about a forced abolition, at least here the Royal Family lost all real political power over 100 years ago, as a public function they're just ceremonial puppets. I could care less if they keep that position or not, I just think it's completely wrong that it's our taxmoney that's paying the costs of them still living like Monarchs. They've enough wealth to support their expensive lifestyle, and if they run out (which seems impossible), get a fucking job like everyone else.

i'm most familar with the British royal family and i've seen them make so many politicly incorrect and racist blunders that they literally are an embarrassment, not just that they are an out dated unelected tax burden.

HOWEVER, I also understand that there are many, many that likes that we still keep around our king and queen for the sake of tradition. I don't see what's wrong with having a "monarchy" when it makes many others happy. The expenses aren't really that big. If you feel that your country is poor then find other ways to save money, and stop being a grinch for others' sense of tradition.

I don't know the exact figure but there are many hundreds of millions going to maintaining the royal family in Sweden. Yet there are people on welfare, people on the street etc. The royal family didn't choose that, well the homeless didn't either, what's your point?

As an outsider looking in, IMO monarchies are outdated and useless...

The royal family effectively has no power, yet millions of pounds/euros/kronor are spent keeping them entertained every year, and for what?

They get to play golf and drive bentleys, get massive mansions and land rights from the government, live on the government dime, while going to places like sudan for 1 day so the press can see them "making a difference"... :greedy:
