You brought the thunder, Aenima. Just because we're not all corporate rock musicians doesn't mean we can't separate crap from substance.

tool's drummer rules and maynard can arguably sing better than any male vocalist out there atm. the lyrics are dope and the bass is heavy. tool gets a thumbs up here.

i never listened to the duo (not band)

in these days, not many bands can pull off a multi-platinum album

bands today might get a platinum record, but they'll rarely be able to continue selling records from years on out, those bands are known as pop, a fad....something that fades. tool is up there with pink floyd and led zeppelin, they just came around in a time when modern pop rock is comparable with the 80s pop.

Somehow, I just don't see this as being the case.

What as an overrated introductory band? Then yes.

50 cent went quadruple platinum in like 6 months. going multi platinum means you are bought by the masses. not that you make good music.
To all the virgins, Thanks for nothing

One of the major tests of "good art" (including music, paintings, literature) is time. Classical music today as we know it have stood the test of time. Leonardo Davinci (SP?) has stood the test of time. People continue to spend their money on things that are hundreds of years old.

No, tool has not been around for hundreds of years, but in today's pop-driven culture...they've stood a test of time in comparison to pop music. People still continue to purchase their material that is over 5 or even 7 years old, and that is an undeniable fact. They constantly sell out at each of their shows, again...an undeniable fact. Whether any of you out there think they're good or not, is your own opinion. You should also know that most tool fans have a love for the band that most people don't have for other bands. A love that's much like the love many have of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

I could go on more about what "good music" is by getting into theory, and the band's knowledge of music theory (rhythm, counterpoint, intervals) all that good stuff. But if you actually listen to the music...it'll tell you, so I don't have to.

ÆNIMA, i start thinking less and less and less and less of you...

the fact that you like tool doesnt mean we all like tool... and if we do not all like tool that doesnt mean you have to keep spamming their "greatness"

i must i have seen them live on 1 occasion... it was good,
                              but it wasn't: ow-ow-ow-im-gonna-write-my-mommy-how-great-tool-was-good...

5-7 years? Someone get out the zimmerframe. If your talking longetivity then there are loads of bands still going after 20 odd years like NOFX and Bad Religion, hell, even Green Day have been going longer than that.
