look when you are in power with islamic republic you do some corrupt shit

but this is more than just the president, this is about what's going down with the religious leaders as well.

You can speculate all you want what might happen but say to yourself you'd like to see Ahmadenijad as Iran's president again

I'm not saying that, I'm just saying would COULD happen. I hope for the best anyway.

I guess it would be like if George Bush somehow ran again and rigged the elections, vs someone like Obama who said "change change change". Nothing is really changing, in fact the economy is going to be far worse, but at least it isn't george bush ruining everything. He was a nutcase. I read somewhere that he wanted to use nuclear missiles against Iran to destroy their uranium reserves, and the chiefs of staff all threatened to quit office if he tried it. Apparently they all strongly urged him to remove it as an option, but he refused, along with dick cheney.

Well, I dunno. I guess the people will force change whether the Supreme Leader or whatever allows it or not. They can't be sleeping comfortably in their homes knowing how pissed off everyone is.

I do think it's interesting just how unsuccessful democracy is in most of the world. Seems like 1/2 or more of the elections you hear about are rigged, reversed, abused, etc. Makes you wonder whether "exporting democracy" or "promoting democracy" is a particularly effective or even desirable foreign policy goal.
that seems like a silly thing to say in light of public revolt. While it's true that democracy has proven unsuccessful in some places it usually tends to be because of flaws within the culture or the way the system is established, not necessarily with democracy itself.

Democratizing/ Capitalizing nations like S. Korea and Brazil have brought those nations into the 21st century. It's also hopeful to see a group of citizens take to the streets in protest of a foul democratic system, such as the case here. You have to admit there are some encouraging aspects to a worldwide democracy.

However, I believe having a healthy amount of cynicism about exporting democracy is justified given the fact that it's failed in just about every African country and is viewed negatively by many in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Democracy may not work for every culture yet, but I believe it's the most beneficial system for the common person whether they realize it or not.

It burns me up seeing the Ayatollah saying it was a landslide victory. As if to add the religious element into there. As if to say Ahmadinejad's dictatorial type rule is divinely justified.

this is all so interesting, it's just so sad to hear Ahmadenijad say that "Iran is the most stable country in the world right now" when it is literally IN FLAMES.

how do you lie like that to your people?

What part exactly of what I said is the silly part? PS: please, tell me more about these "flaws within the culture" that prevent the savages out there from appreciating the glory of our American democratic system.

I think it's American propaganda. I saw equally compelling reports of Ahmadinejad's supporters waving flags and cheering. So these ones set fires and were violent, not that unusual. And let's keep in mind that this shit happens most every election in most unstable democracies.

i've done alot of reading (two books) on Iran's 1979 revolution, and honestly, as much as it must have relieved some pressure from a monarchy, the Islamic Revolution leaves everything as antiquated as every other poorly established government.

The question is, will this be a velvet revolution/orange revolution, or will it be another Tienanmen?

Although I guess the Iranians got it right in a way... guys with clubs on motorcycles at least look a lot less menacing than tanks running over people.

right now fights are being sprung up by the conservatives who are clashing with the protestors who support mussavi

                              riots still going on

What this is all really boils down too is that the elections were the spark that lit this flame that has been boiling over since the last revolution

this was the final straw, and shit is chaotic right now

i was going to make a thread about this, until i searched and saw this.

i have my sources in iran, every country has to go through this bad crap before they get better. with 80% of iran's population being under 30, they want more freedom and therefore voted for mousavi.. iranian government is so stupid they can even fucking try to make a fake election seem realistic... Ahmadinejad won by around 6 million votes last time, but this year he's won by 24 million..? does that even seem worthy of consdering believable? i dont blame everyone for flipping out. im sure well over 60% of that 80% voted for mousavi.

and the iranian government is controlling all the media that goes in and out.. its like they're trying to manipulate everything, thats propaganda for you -.- No texting, no internet, no satellite, sometimes phone calls get cut off. i hope theres a big change here, it would be nice for other countries to help out too - otherwise its a huge challenge for iran, probably one they can't handle alone.
i hope all this is protesting is worth it, they deserve a good change more than ever.
