if you're in a similar situation, you really can't beat the env touch. it's only $20 more than the env3 if you buy online through verizon, and the touch is just flat out a nicer phone.

it should go without saying, but my choices were limited to those phones that are licensed by verizon. i'd absolutely love an iphone or a tmobile g3 (android? hell yes), but circumstances are such that i need to use verizon as my cell carrier.
If you have to be with Verizon grab a BlackBerry Tour. Verizon is running a BOGO promo at the moment and if you are renewing your subscription, Verizon will give you a second BlackBerry or a net book for free. The smaller screen doesn't make that much of a difference for web surfing for me (I've played with a Storm) and the screen is just beautiful.

I just got an iphone 3gs - it's ok. The apps are great. It just sucks that you have to pay for the ones that are worthwhile. The free "lite" versions of games and etc. will keep you satisfied enough if you don't want to spend the extra $2 to get the full versions. I'm not a fan of paying the extra for the data plan, but use it to check email and watch the occasional youtube video when i'm on the road. The gps/map also works pretty well. It also syncs pretty well to my mbp. I'm not an huge fan of apple but I don't really have gripes with the phone besides the fact that the battery life is absolutely horrible.

i don't especially care for the little navigation ball that blackberries sport. you still working for the blackberry folks, eig? ;]

i was in the market for a netbook, as a matter of fact, but then i realized that i can get a much more powerful 15" notebook off the dell outlet and still stay in the same general ballpark budget-wise.

edit: need to update your avatar and user title, bioture. and remember kids, if ya love beagles don't go rootin' for the eagles.

I didn't like the mytouch, returned it and got my G1 back within a week. It feels too blackberry esque.

I turn 3g off on my iphone pretty much all the time, unless I know I'll be on the web for awhile or if I have some youtube video to watch. Makes the battery last a lot longer and you probably won't even notice the fact that 3g is off. You should consider doing it bio.

We are talking about cell phones not fucking laptops.......

I don't understand why anyone would WANT a phone the size of a fucking brick when the whole point for a phone is to be able to call, text, and occasionally play a stupid little game while you are taking a shit and don't have a newspaper near.

There is no reason to have a phone for anything else really. I just don't understand the need for it, and I don't understand why you would want a phone that is so awkward to talk on. I like flip phones so much better, because they actually conform to your ear and mouth. Iphones and things like that don't do that, and just don't work as well as an actual PHONE (meaning making phone calls) than a normal plain flip phone.

Blackberrys are ok to text if you like the retardedly small keyboard buttons that are too close together where you mistype everything, but they are horrible when you want to use the phone as an actual phone.

Do you honestly need to be watching youtube videos on your cell phone enough to warrant the HUGE charges you have to pay a month? I don't understand it really. I pay like $80 a month for 1500 minutes, free incoming, free unlimited texts and unlimited internet. You pay like $150 a month to have an Ipod touch converted into a phone, and frankly I hate my Ipod touch compared to the old 30 gb regular Ipods. If my old one never fell into a pool of water, I would never have gotten rid of it for the piece of shit 8 GB Ipod touch. I also hate the nanos too.. they are useless and too small to see shit on the screen. I got the Ipod Touch for christmas one year, which is why I haven't gone the route of the old Ipod. I dunno... maybe I'm venting.... but I don't see any reason to have a blackberry type phone. They are uncomfortable as fuck to talk on, and they aren't exactly slim.

You know you can download the apps for free. If you have Jailbroken your phone, add cydia.hackuolo.us as a source in Cydia, Install an app called 'Installous'. Bam! Every single App Store app for free. Fuck you, Apple. I downloaded the CoPilot sat nav app and saved myself £70. Sweet.

Oh and Exalt, I used to think that as well, but I have to say I'm so glad I have my iPhone as I can log into my work's intranet using it as a modem, and do some of my work and organise things when I'm out of the office but not at home, which saves it creeping up on me when I go back in. I know that if I stuck with my old Ericsson, I'd have a lot more hassle with work. Not only that, I have all my favourite music on there, I can sync my calendar to it, I can use it as a sat nav for when I have to go out to unfamiliar places, I can check my emails, use the browser for all sorts of stuff. Oh yeah, and I can call and text.

Oh and I pay about £15 a month, which is what, just less than $30?

It entirely depends on what you WANT from a phone. If you don't see any reason for having one, don't have one. I personally find them incredibly useful, more so now that I'm working than when I first got it when I was in University.

Each to their own is what I say.

Exalt, when's the last time you checked out smart phones? 2006? Many of them are just as slim as cell phones and not much heavier. Also, if you think BlackBerry's have tiny keys that are too close together your hands must be way too big. I can type out page long emails while half awake and only make 2-3 mistakes.

I do agree that a lot of people who don't need smart phones are buying them (i.e. high school students). Those phones are for business people who need a laptop in their pocket. If my company didn't hand me one for free, I wouldn't be using a BlackBerry but now that I have one, it's freaking addictive.

$80 a month is a tonne of money for a phone plan. My home phone and my BlackBerry calling plan together have never exceeded $60 a month and 90% of my calls are long distance. The data plan is a different matter, but only if I had to pay for it...

Yeah, I'm still out spreading the good word for my company. Almost as bad as drinking the Apple kool aid

As part of my job I keep up with all the current tech trends by visiting Boy Genius Report, Engadget etc... and it's amazing how vehemently people push their tech beliefs on others. Starting to look like Mac vs. PC, iPhone vs. BlackBerry, Xbox vs. PlayStation are this century's religious wars.

P.S. just thought I'd mention that the newest BlackBerry; the Gemini (T-Mobile exclusive in the US) is the first BlackBerry to have a track pad instead of a scroll ball. Can't stop preaching

i love it. recently installed a custom windows mobile 6.5 OS and its like having a new phone all over again. some awesome GPS apps for it too. cool ones such as if you put it in a stable place in your car it will show G's and acceleration and braking and such, kind of like a mini-telemetry thing if your really play with it. also very solid ive dropped it twice from pocket level and all the sensors and levels and shit are still perfect.
Ill-timed force will be ineffective; act with precision; timing is everything. Knowing where and when to strike is more important than strength; misapplied ability is disability. Unreasonable or undue force will defeat itself
