i watched obamas speech, and while the rest of this country wants to hang congressman Joe Wilson, i would like to applaud him.

When Obama finished saying "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally." Rep Joe Wilson loudly yelled "YOU LIE".

Joe Wilson is correct. Im tired of Obamas brainwashing speeches to the public, and i wish more people would call him on his bullshit.

Conc, this website has been awesome in clarifying alot of things about the bill. Can you provide any sort of website that breaks down the "exchange" and what exactly it is?

Man, I'm beginning to hate republicans as much as democrats on this fucking bill. I'd like to get some actual analysis of the bill so I can start making all of my anarchist doomsday scenarios and whatnot. I don't want to argue idealism, I'd like to look at it from an economic perspective - how the industries will be affected, organized, etc.

But that would also require an understanding of the current system, which is complex enough as is. If anyone has any resources on that, I would love to know.

I'm tempted to walk in to a doctor's office and just be like: yo dude, can I pay you fifty bucks for a checkup? No paperwork, just a mutual exchange between two fucking people. I want to understand what mAkes that scenario impossible.

A couple of things here, you applaud people yelling in revolt rather than civil discussion? I don't. It was disrespectful and rude, and I don't condone that. Civil and constructive criticism is fine, but yelling @ the President with no factual basis is just plain stupid. Might as well revert to the angry mobs with pitchforks and torches. I would like to think that humanity has grown and advanced beyond this. These are the people who run the show, who establish the systems that govern our country and they can't even listen to a speech respectfully. I find it sad.

Now about this notion of "just get a good job like the rest of us". In 2005 only 60% of companies in America could offer health insurance to their employees (ref: http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...nsurance_x.htm) I couldn't find something more recent, but I am 100% certain it has gone down by nearly 10%. That means that only half of all companies in the United States have the ability to offer health insurance. Eventually those 50% of companies are going to run out of employment opportunities, and who is going to see and feel it? You? No you won't. You are likely a white christian male born in the United States (that's not even taking into account location within the United States). Statistics put you with a tremendous likelihood of going to college and then to higher employment. That is how the American system works. The system likely didn't screw you. But let's say you were an African American male born in say Baltimore (for all those people who like The Wire) let's disregard the fact that your life expectancy is a whopping 22 years old. What's your likelihood now? Become uneducated, not go to college, work dead end jobs, go to jail, or get involved in drugs. That isn't choice, that is the system you are BORN INTO screwing you. Shit you had no chance of controlling. I understand that this "doesn't happen to you and you don't meet these people in your social sphere, so it could never be true", but guess what, it is. Just because the system isn't fucking us white males over, doesn't mean it isn't putting an enormous dick in someone else's ass. To sum it up: No, not everyone can just "work hard" and "get a good job". Shit isn't that simple for some.
